Laughton to Toronto

On the Ray and Dregs podcast, Ferraro mentioned Toronto as a team that could be interested in Scott Laughton. Ray didn't seem aware of the fact that Laughton is mostly used as a wing these days, or that his defense has been poor for a couple of years now. Dreger speculated that the cost for Laughton would be a 1st rounder.

Personally, I think an actual center like Frost would help the Leafs more, and cost less in terms of contract and trade value.

Frost makes a lot more sense if they’re looking for a middle 6 center, but wonder if Laughton is a better fit for the type of player Berube would want.

he's a 'fit' in theory, and would ne a nice guy to have, but a few players would need to be moved to get him a spot, but, the stated 'need' is a middle line C

Wasn't it confirmed that Philly had an offer in the 20oa range for Laughton at the draft a couple years ago and they declined it or am I completely making that up?

Why is Laughton worth a 1st?
Don’t see any reason Philly would be rushing to trade him to the leafs unless they receive a good offer. They can probably trade him for at least a 2nd/3rd + prospect type package to any number of willing contenders so the onus would be on the leafs to make it worth it for Philly

So this is less speculation and more a fan proposal from a hockey personality.

Leafs for sure are in the market for a middle 6 C (and a true one, not a 4C who pretends to be a 3C we've got 4 of them between Dewar, Kampf, Holmberg, and Steeves). They for sure are willing to pay for it too.

Ideally they are like a Cirelli type which I know will be hard to find.

I’d assume he’s used as a top 6 winger ; rather than bottom center (where he’d be in Toronto) simply because of the lack of wing talent moreso than shortcomings at the dot?

Was rumored to be in a deal instead of Hayes along with Sanheim to the Blues. It didn't fully come out that it was Laughton alone for a 1st. What it seemed to be was Krug + Prospect + 1st for Laughton and Sanheim. Krug didn't waive the clause for Philly. So it seemed to break down to just Hayes retained for a late pick - which dumping Hayes then cost the Blues a 2nd like a year after, which turned into a 2nd and a 3rd being traded to get the 2nd back for the offersheets on Broberg/Holloway  . Fwiw the Blues had 3 1sts in that draft and it seemed to be either pick 25 (Stenberg) or 29 (Lindstein) that was the 1st in question.

I get that people are hesitant giving up first round picks, but it's not as if you're getting garbage with Laughton. He's scoring at a .55 ppg pace, which works out to 45 points on the season. 18 goals from a third/fourth line winger that can play in a pinch just about anywhere in the lineup and is a good team guy,/role player. If you're looking for character guys, there's none better then Laughton. These guys always go at the trade deadline for good pieces. At the very least, he's going to return a really good prospect that might be worth a first.

It was always Hayes in the deal, it didn’t change. It was Hayes and Sanheim until Krug nixed it and that pushed Sanheim out.

Flyers fans, is Laughton a true center that can hold down a 3c spot?
I like him as a player, but the leafs can't afford to be spending assets to get another guy who cannot play centre and "thrives on the wing"

I think we'd be better off just dumping kampf and bringing minten back up.

Why do the Leafs have to pay more? There is no rivalry whatsoever between the two organizations.
