Confirmed with Link: Laughton 50 Retention A 4th and A 6th to the Leafs for A Conditional 2027 1st Round Pick and Nikita Grebenkin

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Still early, and been trying to give these new players time to fit in, but man he's been bad...

If you're using a 1st at the deadline, you need to bring in a player that's an actual upgrade on somebody on your team. We were supposed to be targeting a 3C upgrade, and not only does it seem like we didn't get that, I'm struggling to justify even having him in a healthy top 12 forwards. He doesn't even bring a specialised skillset (like Lafferty's speed, Acciari's physicality, etc) that we could exploit for a certain role, like past depth additions that cost a fraction of what we paid for Laughton. He's just... there.
Yup. If we wanted a LW, we could have gotten a terrific one for 1st + Grebekin.

He is what he is

AHL’er

Does nothing well

Leafs have had some real bad trades over all these yrs and this is just another. Hurts more because we had very little assets to waste. We needed a centre and got a bad winger.

Everyone can see it on the ice.
There is positively no justification for scratching Holmberg for him... other than his cost. Holmberg is a better skater, plays with more energy and actually looks like he wants to be a Leaf.

He’s not doing anything Dewar wasn’t. And at least Dewar is younger, was ingratiated into the locker room, and didn’t cost a 1st and a prospect.

Just a big ol’ pile of nothing with this guy. It’s one thing for fans to be wrong and misled by media outlets. It’s another for a GM and pro scouts to be so blatantly bamboozled.

I was not tricked. In fact, I was suspended for “flaming” about this bozo when I tried explaining.

I called him trash the day we got him. Overall I agree with the posters above, Holmberg and Dewar better options right now, if we put money aside. He also seemed very unhappy in his arrival interviews

I love how hate equates to wisdom. The more you hate Laughton, the more you deserve to graduate from HF and become a scout for the Leafs.

Not too long ago people were going nuts when they signed OEL. Now it's just silly nonsense with Laughton. People are so emotional that they wildly label Grebenkin as a "Blue Chip Prospect". Lol.

If there's any generalizations to be made, it's that many here repeatedly protested the idea of acquiring Laughton. So that's a kind of hate before and after the acquisition.

It didn't take a ton of wisdom to have serious concerns about a guy playing on the LW with extremely troubling underlying numbers who was supposed to solve our 3C problem

He's a bad 4th liner who's worth a mid round pick at best and we gave up assets that had some value for him

This is bad asset management 101

Put Laughton on Tavares’ wing, and you instantly get a 50-point player, in my opinion.

Laughton doesn’t fit with Domi or Robertson at all. He’s a cycle and board player who retrieves pucks and can finds players in the slot. Trying to pair him with two rush players like Robertson and Domi just doesn’t work. That’s not his game.

Instead, use him with Tavares and Marner. Let him play the puck retrieval role on that line and contribute in his strength. He can work the boards, cycle it with Tavares and help retrieve pucks for that line.

I guess the leafs pro scouting g is just looking at the TSN trade board and going for one of the guys they had ranked the highest. Oh this guy plays c and is on the top 5 for the TSN trade board? Wow he must be really good!

This trade pisses me off so much.

Isn’t the pick in 2027? The impact of that pick is like 7+ years away. The leafs took a gamble
And it hasn’t paid off yet. I’m not going to pretend like I love the trade, but we need to wait for the dust to settle in the playoffs before judging. If this guy figures it out and can become a contributor in the playoffs that’s all that matters and the price will be worth it.

Very well put. This. Grebenkin will maybe be a middle 6 winger someday but Laughton, up until this trade was a 3C now for a team that could use more centre depth.

If Toronto did nothing at the deadline, they’d be even angrier.
