Leafs was coming off a long road trip with player who didn't saw their family/ wife / child a lot. Exemple Matthews/ Marner probably be at home like 2-3 day max last 45 days. It was a pretty challenging schedule for leafs.

Just as exemple, you didn't saw your child a lot for several days, 1st day at home you probably try to have time with them and don't necessairly get a lot of rest. So maybe level of energy would be as high 1st game after long road trip... Hockey player still human at the end.

The human factor shouldn’t be a consideration. Remember when the Red Wings traveled on a game day in a blizzard to Toronto and had all these issues getting to the hotel etc? Beat the well rested Leafs who were just comfy and cozy at home. You look to create excuses for this team and then you realize they’re just never ready. It’s too much.

I'm not looking for excuse or one specific day just saying its not easy being on the road as much time and just add an other challenge.

45 days marner /Matthews had been on road, at a moment energy come short ( and surprise matthews get a rest this morning) and i would be more concerning if they still playing that way in the last 2 meeting when they will would fresher...

I just came in late to the game tonight. Opened the feed and he lost the face off and then about 30 seconds later got stripped of the puck at the red line because he stopped skating

He is terrible

He will be lucky to be in the NHL in 2-3 years.

It's absolute statements like this, that usually end up being proven wrong. One game does not a season make, whether you believe in this team, or not. Teams have good streaks, and bad streaks... the best teams do, and the worst teams.... I mean Florida just lost to Boston, a team who sold off many of the good players, and couldn't even beat them. Does that suggest they won't go anywhere?

Not that I believe in the Leafs that much, but in all seriousness this is sport and it's unpredictable. To get this wound up emotionally seems silly.

I hope you are right lol

I would probably just move him this summer and recoup some assets. Nothing personal or that complicated. Just not really what we need and not a natural fit.

To be fair to the guy, I wouldn't expect a UFA signing over the summer to necessarily gel right away,.let alone a tdl acquisition, sometimes it takes a few weeks to build chemistry and adjust to a new city

Laughton just isn’t a good fit by design. Nothing personal but I would just move on. It’s not a wait and see issue.

I suggested Jankowski for a late pick before Tulsky picked him up for...a late pick. We didn't need to overpay to supplement at position. We needed smaller moves from the bottom up. And our asset ceiling capped at a 2nd and various prospects.

Makes you wonder if there's a memo above Shanahan that says X-outlay for X-type of asset for X-level of media utility has to be acted upon for trade approval. Makes you wonder why we couldn't just quietly support the group with modest assets.

I understand the Carlo payment to an extent. I don't understand Laughton's in the least and wish there was a Leafs Blueprint recording of the deliberation to justify the expense.

I think it's dreadful he's been moved to the wing.

I think Ottawa's mismanaging Zetterlund, but he cost them a 2nd +, with much better numbers (incl. a plus on SAN JOSE!), an RFA, five years younger - contract troubles with Grier notwithstanding, he would have been a nice hedge against another winger walking for nothing in the summer.

And we'd still have a 1st.

Every year there’s an online group think add for Toronto. A few years ago it was Brandon Hagel and this year it was Scott Laughton. Laughton was a terrible target, not what we needed and way too expensive. However they made that mistake it was a mistake and it will go down in infamy as a JFJ worthy mistake.

Yet ironically if Marner waived his NTC, it could have been a great deadline.

He's not very good @Menzinger

His advanced stats were poor before he even got here and he wasn't playing center consistently In Philly either

Honestly he needs to go because we are going to need every bit of cap space and available assets to bring in a guy that's capable of playing 3C at a competent manner and that's not Laughton

Laughton is just a poorly conceived JFJ era add. Combined with the team melting around around him and being a bad fit off the hip. He’s gotta go at the earliest.

Agreed. They were pressured to make a splash. Matthews was lobbying for an add. See what happened.
If the influence of Matthews' push is what forced their hand to make this horrible trade, then the inmates are running the asylum which is never a good thing in hockey..

Matthews has completely lost the plot as a franchise player is concerned.

90% all the stuff they traded for Laughton and Carlo won't amount to a single thing so whatever. What they do in the playoffs is what matters.

Hagel would have been great

The question to me will be whether it’s Carlo or Laughton that cost us a lottery first?

I can remember one shot on goal that he's had since getting here, it was an old school looking clapper from the blueline off the rush that probably clocked in at about 75 mph
