What spin are they putting on? As of right now, the auction on the land the Coyotes ownership group was bidding on to build their arena is hours away from being lost because it’s not part of the itinerary for the upcoming meeting, meaning council cannot vote on it, also meaning the deadline to buy the land/start building the arena will be missed. Thus again, back to square one of having no land to build an arena and no approval within the state of Arizona to begin building anywhere, once again.
There’s no secondary false spin being put on here by Canadian media.
There’s more to it. The city of Scottsdale needs to mitigate the flood path in order to have it zoned correctly to, so that’s another hurdle.
The 24 hour notice was submitted, was it approved? Won’t know until tomorrow. But the flood path is on the agenda and from what I know is the largest hurdle to the whole process.
Look, I am the first to admit the embarrassment of what this franchise is. They’ve been given too many chances, too many times. Why Gary has such an obsession to this market is beyond me. It may be because it’s the 5th largest market in the US and that potential is there, but we’ve been doing this for far too long. Glendale was never going to be successful. Aside from big out of market teams showing up, the place was empty and way too far for the casual fan.
It worked down town but that was in the early years, so it was new? They had a relatively decent team? And it was a lot closer? Who knows.
Giving this a chance where this ownership group has the potential to bring the team to the best location possible to be successful I believe is what Gary is looking at.
Ownership has the money, but failed Tempe flawlessly. This is and will be the last stab at this debacle, I can guarantee that. If they can’t secure this land, I hope they get relocated because at this point patience and exhaust has run out.
