Wouldn’t be shocked if Stan pushes to bring in his own guy if the team continues to underperform
And I'm sorry. Blindfolded Eakins could've been coach last year and it would've been the same result. McDrai going supernova the entire year, running out of steam, and most of the rest of the roster hiding in the shadows trying to ride their coattails to a cup in the finals.

Oilers were going deep despite whoever was behind the bench

Agreed, them going supernova (with Bouch and Ekholm) was the main reason they went so deep. Knob was just another “wake up call”

I recall some posters saying that advanced stars were showing they were likely to reach such heights even if Woody stayed on (fraud coach, of course, but besides that point)

Kane and Frederic are too physical for Knobby's liking. They won't be liked in this room.
Oilers under Knob were a lot more physical last year than they are this year, as they had a different makeup of players. Quite certain he's not coaching them to not be physical, it's mainly the temperament of the current roster. Often it only takes one guy to bring everyone into the fight, and that's a huge attribute that Kane brings. I fully expect hitting to ramp up in the playoffs.

I'm one of the biggest Jeff Skinner haters and even I think it's ridiculous that he's still scratched

give the guy a chance, the roster is set... try to maximize what we can get out of this player
Same boat. His game is meh to me but you can't argue... meh with goals

To be fair, just because a player doesn't kill penalties historically doesn't mean he can't. It's not like our current group of PKers are performing so well we couldn't try others there.
Well, in theory anyone can PK. But the fact that he pretty much hasn't seen the PK in 4 years suggests he's not very good at it. They can try him in that role though.

The voice of reason.

I read some goofy stuff on here but suggesting that Knoblauch is coaching softness into the team is right up there. LOL

I am a little surprised that Jones doesnt have much of a history on the PK.
Very good skater...seems to anticipate the play quite well.

This is incorrect. They had statistically more hits, but that’s carryover from Woody. We saw throughout the year, and especially the playoffs, they shifted away from hitting. Rishaug asked coach directly about it- and that’s where Knob said he believes in “checking with the legs”.

It gets mentioned a lot on the GYB podcast and Rishaug always points out “it’s not an area emphasis” of this coach. He has asked him numerous times. I think if physical play was emphasized- Edmonton would have won that Florida series- their defence was small (11th largest of the 16 teams that made the playoffs)

Not only score goals he is preventing chances against. Whatever line he has been on (since January 1)Has been winning possession and shot share (as well as goal share). Knob is just doing it now to prove a point that he is in charge- no matter what the stats decide

That's exactly what he's doing, and it's coming from his own words. He's said multiple times that he believes hitting to be overrated and a sign that you dont have the puck, and he'd rather have his team "check with their legs". He's actively coaching this team to _not_ hit. Physicality is NOT a prequisite to get ice time on this team.

Do have to admit that his usage is extremely strange.

Puck possession plays a big role in hitting stats. He has said as much in a few interviews.
Thats what Knoblauch meant by saying it isnt an area of emphasis.

This notion that he is coaching his team to be soft is just dumb.

Prior to this week this team was a soft team IMO. Thats on the GM.
Its not so much that they didnt hit enough (although I do enjoy that) its more about not having the requisite pushback physically when playing a heavy team.

With the addition of Frederic and Jones and the return of Kane that shouldnt be an issue any more because they wil have some heaviness on 3 of the 4 lines.

We’ve lost games while putting up 4 hits. It’s disgusting that there’s no pushback while losing on the scoreboard. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before.
I can only hope when Kane and Frederic get in Knob doesn’t somehow neuter them.

Yep. Works on what he’s supposed to and still gets scratched. Scores more than most of the forwards… scratched.

I’m convinced it’s just the path of least resistance for Knob at this point which is garbage.
