The last time the Blackhawks had a ‘winning’ roster…not the 2016 or 2017 rosters that lost in the first rounds…but the one that beat a McDavid lead Oilers team in a best of five, the 2020 ‘bubble boys’…a Jeremy Colliton coached team no less…

Jonathan Toews
Patrick Kane
Dominik Kubalik
Alex DeBrincat
Kirby Dach
Brandon Saad
Matthew Highmore
Dylan Strome
Drake Caggiula
David Kampf
Ryan Carpenter
Alex Nylander
John Quenneville

Olli Maatta
Duncan Keith
Connor Murphy
Slater Koekkoek
Calvin deHaan
Adam Boqvist
Lucas Carlsson

Corey Crawford
Malcom Subban

Played NINE meaningful games…NINE!

The bubble team was bad. That's why they were 24th in the league at the time of the stoppage. Beating a one-trick pony Oilers team doesn't mean anything.

The 2015-16 team certainly had a chance to do some damage if they had gotten by St. Louis. It's really a shame they made that Weiss trade.

But this one is playing worse. If that isn’t a massive indictment I don’t know what is.
They’re better defensively and not getting blown out of games. The offense has no direction or creativity but at least they’re better in one area.

The roster last year had Tinordi, Megan, 19 year old Korchinski, and Zaitsev on our D core. We had Entwistle, Raddysh, and a bunch of other AAAA level bums out there on our forward lines.

They were scoring at something like a 1.70 GF/g with Bedard out and watching them live was some of the worst hockey I’ve ever seen.

This isn't it. Maybe it's your expectations or your memory of a year ago is wrapped, but they were awful offensively and defensively last year.

Last year at this team the team has 5 wins and multiple times they were shutout. They had like 3-5 games I'd call blowout losses by this time already. And that team got worse at parts during that season.

This year, I'd give the Canucks game that was about it for blowouts, and that game alone. They've been outchanced a lot but rarely giving constant grade a chances against like before, but a lot more boring low event chances have been the result.

They’re not better defensively. I don’t have the heat map but the front of the net was open all day today. They were outshot by 16 or 17.

The only reason this team is not getting blown out every game is because of Mrazek. You might mistake this team as good defensively if you box watch only.

Yeah…. Mrazek bailed them out all day and that was against a shitty Philly team no less.

Good teams play down to their level because they know how shitty they are.

Today they were blown away with chances. Most games haven't been this bad. They've moved to low 20s in xg goals against.

No it's not just goaltending. This was a bottom tier goals against team last year.

They are bottom 5 in HDCA, XGA, SA, and SCA... This team is f***ing terrible defensively. I have no idea what you're watching. The goaltenders are the only reason they aren't giving up 4-5 a game.

They are also bottom 5 in every offensive category.

It’s insane that somehow Boston and Nashville are both scoring less goals per game than the Hawks are.

Montgomery was fired, and I can't see Brunette lasting much longer in Nashville. That team is truly f***ing awful and shouldn't be with that roster.

Yeah, Nashville just doesn’t make any sense. Especially with how good they were for the second half or so last year. Puzzling to say the least.

Powers posted and people clipped it here, a list of things and the Hawks were 24th expected goals against, and I know that's dropped a week out or so it was outside the bottom 10 when people were posting top and bottom 10 metrics. No... they're not bottom 5 defensively.

These takes on Nashville, just have me baffled too. I am just not getting the roster evaluations here. I laughed at threads about Nashvilles summer, it was a disaster for a team that's been toying with rebuilding but not for 4 years. Why do you think they'd be good? Thats not a coaching issue, when your top talents are under 20 or over 33, don't expect success. They were hot off a silly ride last year and goaltending but that was it. It's anyone for Pittsburgh who thought Karrlsson was a good addition... how can people evaluate roster choices so bad. Fans that blame Sullivan are as off base as those saying Q was the main problem. No, just age and poor talent was the biggest culprit. Every coach makes bad choices and some more than others, but the Hawks and Preds don't have good youthful, driving depth to make plays. The Hawks at least have the future in mind.

It's like fans here want to be montreal because that's more exciting, I have a way better outlook to this team because that's not how they're building yet. In 2 years time when you have more offensive picks actually nhl ready, sure that'll be better.
