If the Leafs lose this series it will be 6 straight first round losses. 3 since Keefe took over and 4 since Dubas took over. What happens if they lose?
NoWe bring in a hockey guy to run hockey operations .. it is pretty simple .. let Dubie stick around to help out with analytics on drafting/recruitment .. new GM hires his own coach .. or maybe MLSE sweeps out Shanny and entre crew and starts over if Shanny does not agree
I think its a miracle Keefe wasn't fired after last season. He didn't split up with Matthews/Marner line once - despite them getting bodied by danault for 7 games. Actually crazy - any sane coach would shuffle his lines when losing games - but not Keefe, he held strong!
Leafs beat the shit out of the Habs with those two on the ice at 5 on 5, they just didn't cash in...
The bigger issue was them not getting the PP going, that cost them series.
I don't think the Op would be able to add a poll to an existing thread. This could not have been part of the 1000 other threads on the subject?
The bolded portion is a fascinating area of discussion. I do think it is healthy and normal to approach a place where you do want some event to occur that will bring the change you feel is necessary for your favorite team to get where it wants to go. I'm not there, personally, yet.The bigger issue was Matthews had a wrist injury, that required surgery, and his shooting % was 2.9%, when he is 16.4% career, and higher than that the last two years.
As far as the question... man, what a bunch of defeatists this fan base has. You are already asking "if they lost", expecting it, probably some even hoping for it, so that their regular complaining is proven right.
Enjoy the ride, they've assembled the best leafs team we've seen in a very long time.
Of course they do that's ridiculous.Don't want to appear jaded, but as long as they are making money they don't care.
TMLSE make deal with gambling firm
They havn't been together that long. This is the third playoffs and the previous two were under pandemic circumstances. The bolded portion is a fascinating area of discussion. I'd go glass half full on the Leafs getting swept in Round 1, if I knew that occurrence would lead to the removal of Kyle and Sheldon. Now, I don't want that to happen...would greatly prefer to see a series win, but if it does I see potential value there in that changes, that I think necessary, are made.
Has to come a point regardless of how you feel about Kyle and Keefe, that the combination just hasn't succeeded and need to be moved on. A sweep in Round 1, or a pasting in a 5-game series is that point for me.
All those Cup winning teams that are irrelevant to you notwithstanding.Lol. We're less than a week to the playoffs with the best Leaf team ever assembled and we're already acting like we've lost and talking about firing everybody.
Of course they aren't the preferred opponent but I think they can very much beat Tampa. All those Cup winning teams that are irrelevant to you notwithstanding.
This is called vision...and experience. I think most of us, if we're being honest, know it is very unlikely the Leafs beat Tampa and we're mentally preparing for that eventuality.
I get those who say "don't kill my hope, man" ...and I have that hope too, I just think it isn't very likely because that is the most realistic outlook. So, speaking to what is a strong possibility is not so crazy.
It's actually called toxic negativity and pessimism. It is not "very unlikely" that the Leafs beat Tampa. It's a nice even matchup that should be a lot of fun. If we do lose, that's something you deal with and discuss in the offseason, not before the series even starts. This is called vision...and experience. No, it's based on losing FIVE series in a row and the pattern that is well-established from our stars that they can't get it done in deciding games. It's actually called toxic negativity and pessimism.
