As a player who was always going to leave for the NHL when it resumed, Lassi wasn't getting prime opportunities in Ilves' line-up, so this move is perfect and permanent as he is already signed to ELC. He is such a project, but already looks to possess a heavy NHL shot from the blueline as a right handed defenceman. I have been/am preaching patience with this kid - it might take a minute but I have faith in Troy Mann to get the best out of him. Belleville will be a good team for prospect development once again, their on-ice performance dependent on how many key guys they lose to Ottawa/taxi squad.

No debate that he didn't perform well, while those other guys were top performers, who eat more minutes as such. My point is that he is a longer term project and not yet a lost cause. He already possesses a heavy shot from the point, good size, and skating. His offence also disappeared at Ilves this season, and he will get more slack to develop under Troy.

I knew, with his toolkit, that a move to Bellleville would do wonders for Lassi Thomson's development. He is barely scratching the surface, he has a lot to learn defensively under Troy Mann. With patience, we may get a legit top 4/5 NHL defenceman who can also play PP1 or PP2 depending on the formation.

@BondraTime I am flexing my non-existent 24" python (the same size as Nick Paul's...) lol.

If I had to project the 2 now.. I would say Thomson will end up more in the mold of a Zaitsev and JBD will end up more in the mold of a Zub.

Thomson displays more raw physical tools in his approach to the the game than JBD who plays a more conservative heady game. It could very well be that Thomson wins a spot with his style of play ahead of JBD but I don't think that would mean he's better in 2-3 years down the road.
JBD was also hampered by lace bite for the last couple weeks in camp as well so for this camp that may have been a factor in the impressions he left. Its also a small sample regardless.

Good point, I forgot JBD had an injury. Still, he didn't wow me this preseason and late last year. It's going to be interesting who emerges as the better player.

Lassi is fine offensively; he looks good at the offensive blueline. He can whip it around and has a great shot. In the defensive zone, he makes Brannstrom look like Scott Stevens (bit of hyperbole). Just my opinion but he needs to get a LOT stronger before he can handle NHL forwards and I'm not sure if he'll ever get there.

I see him listed at 6 feet 192 pounds. He's 21, he can't be rail thin at that weight. He's clearly got a frame that he can put muscle on

Both need to man up so to speak. Need to develop physically to play against NHL level competition. Another year or two.

I think we will see them in a year. A lot can change in a year. Including weight gain and various other aspects of these players games. I can see both of these players being first call ups in injuries happen this season in our defensive core.

Lassi is a late bloomer for sure. He is going to blossom as 3rd liner at best.

JBD needs a lot of work also and may fall under the same situation as Lassi.

These guys are bottom pairing unless they surprise us. Don't let their draft position fool you.
“Quietly good” is very good in my opinion. And that’s what I hope they become. Most teams don’t have 4 good-great d me.

Dunno why you're so down on JBD. He's been a top pair D on every college team he's played for.

Great news to see our top remaining D prospect called up today. Hopefully he gets into a game this week.

Decent play out of Brann and Lassi with Sanderson coming could really calm things down around here.

Happy for this pick

its like buying a call option with a far expiry date and the stock just keeps on dropping and you thought u lost your money but u held onto it anyways and now its coming up.

If Lassi becomes a serviceable #4 D for Ottawa it could be something that will help with the healing whenever we are reminded about the Duchene trade.

Super odd analogy to use on these boards

Thomson showed why I been raving about him 2nd half of last year in AHL. Completely diff player. When he gets more confident you'll even see his karlsson like breakout passes.

Hoping one of he or JBD can be RD partner for Sanderson moving forward

Looked good after 1 game.

Maybe too early to call out the loud posters that have been slamming him non stop but in due time hopefully.

Standard terrible evals by the same loud group who mis eval most players they bark about.

The more I watch Lassi the more he reminds me of Sami Salo.

Unlikely to be a top pair guy but a decent top 4 two way guy with a bomb of a shot.

I see it, better skater without the size. His skating and compete allows him to defend one on one well.

Could have been first game luck. Ceci also looked incredible his first like…7 games.

Even so probably better than anyone on our right side not named Zub
