Yeah I blame Lou more than Pete for the merry-go-round too. What was Pete supposed to do, really? Scratch Volch the entire season? That wouldn't fly, as much as fans want it this ain't NHL13 where you can do it without taking money or players' feelings into account. We saw what happened with Tallinder, how he got distraught when he was a scratch early in the season. It was really a six of seven merry-go-round for half the season until Harrold got taken out of mothballs and that further gummed up the works.
Fayne I do wonder if he was hurt, he was definitely hurt earlier in the season and during that Ranger game in the final week where he was scratched. He could have been secretly fighting the wrist or whatever it was the whole season. That's the only rational explanation for what happened to him last year, but yeah on the face of it he was shafted far worse than anyone...from the first pairing on a SCF team last year to periodic healthy scratch and third-pairing D this year.
Lou just can't let it happen again this year. Buyout the Kone, trade Tallinder, trade Fayne even, if it means he'll get to play regularly somewhere else. The one question I kept asking when we started sucking this year. Hey Lou, hows that 8 defensemen working out for you? Also my other phrase. No more 8 defensemen EVER!
Don't get me wrong. I really think he is VERY good, but should be playing at least 22 minutes a night. If he's not good enough to do it in New Jersey, than let him develop in the AHL, or trade him for for an asset.
That's up to our GM to not give us 8 defensemen again. 7 of which are NHL caliber. Volchenkov really isn't NHL caliber anymore, but like Devs26 said. He isn't gonna be scratched the whole season.
I wonder if Larsson was meant to possibly start the season in the AHL last year if there was no lockout? When I suggested it last Summer people jumped all over me. It wasn't something I wanted, it was just a feeling I had. Despite Lou saying he would be in the NHL last Summer, I wonder if he really would have had to fight extra hard for that spot.
