Rumor: Larkin requests trade

I don't think it's gonna be nearly as bad as the sky-is-falling nonsense I hear from some places.

There's two possibilities here, in my eyes:
a. Stevie wants a comparable return for Larkin. No blowing it up, no selling assets, no crap like that. He wants a hockey trade, and he will out-wait Larkin until he gets it.
b. Stevie takes a hard look at the roster and decides to tear it all down. Everyone must go, sell Ed, Finnie, ASP, find Faulk a good landing spot, and just build around Ray and Mo.

Knowing Yzerman, he's aiming for option A. I see option B as only happening if all else fails.
Yeah, I would agree with this. My guess is he pursues A and does his best to build around his current team. But if DeBrincat indicates he's not going to extend then you likely head towards B to build around the Seider and Raymond core. One bad season next year and you use the 2027 + draft capital to address the center position.

This whole board has gone off the deep end. I know everyone always wants to tank for the mystery box around here, but there's no chance in hell that's what team owners are going to do. You mighty be fine with them losing 8-9 figures in revenue on a team with no shot at the playoffs for a couple of years, but that's a lot easier to say when its not your money.

Larkin still has way too many years left on the deal for it to be of any immediate concern. Nothing indicates that he's going to be sitting out if he's not traded, makes no sense for either party involved. We have no idea how this trade request was phrased, might just have been him saying it would be okay to be moved if that's the direction the team want to take. Everyone seems to think that he has to be traded because he requested it, but that's not how this works.

You think he’s going to not get traded and play games for Detroit this upcoming season?

I have a really hard time seeing that.

Maybe you will give him the benefit of the doubt here, but 90% of the other fans won’t.

He will get booed off the ice every game. He doesn’t want that, and it’s too late to undo this now.

Anyone know the returns ? Just curious so I can criticize them 😂

List is terrible. This is what it says:

1. Minnesota - Jesper Wallstedt, Danila Yurov & Charlie Stramel for Dylan Larkin & Sebastian Cossa
2. Carolina - 1st 26 & Alexander Nikishin for Dylan Larkin
3. Florida - 9th Overall 26, Eetu Luostarinen & Sandis Vilmanis for Dylan Larkin
4. Tampa Bay - Sam O'Reilly & Conor Geekie for Dylan Larkin
5. Dallas - Thomas Harley for Dylan Larkin
6. Utah - Barrett Hayton, Tij Iginla & 1st 27 for Dylan Larkin.

Agreed...Option 'A' seems the safer bet when compared to another rebuild with Option 'B'...Option 'A' could also play out well for this team - as in fresh face/s in the locker room - change in 'C' with Mo - maybe not experiencing the annual 'March Meltdown' and actually finishing the season on a positive note and in the playoffs?

NGL - the Dallas offer seems intriguing, but it would be optimal if we got a forward capable of playing center.

If it could be a trade of Harley+Robertson+Dylan Hryckowian for Larkin, 1st 27, Bear, Anton Johansson & Noah Dower Nilsson.
That would be more intriguing.

Won't solve the center question and it will be expensive as Harley's contract is bigger than Dobson and Robertson would get a big deal..
But, would have three legit top 3 d-men and three top six wingers.

The thing is, if you try to go for Harley it would likely be Larkin+, let alone adding Robertson on top?

For me it depends what else happens.

Id be okay if Wallstadt is part of the deal if we can then move Gibson + Cossa in other moves.

If Gibson can return a 1st and Cossa a solid young player or we can package the two of them to florida for 9th overall. Getting 9th is probably ambitious but point landing Wallstadt could enable other moves that help.

In theory

Wallstadt + Yurov + Stramel for Larkin

Cossa + Gibson (50% retained) + 2nd for 9th overall

Walking away with Wallstadt + Yurov + Stramel + 9th isn't so bad

The point I can’t get past is that you literally haven’t played Cossa or Augustine or Postava for more than a game. It’s a hideous waste to use Larkin to acquire another goalie. … and also is horrible optics because you’re trading for the goalie you could have taken without playing the guy you did take.

am i the only one who thinks this may have been leaked by yzerman? follow my train of thought here:

larkin requests a trade and gives the rumored 3 team list
yzerman knows hes not getting anything of real value from those 3 teams
request gets "leaked" by yzerman
huge fan backlash
yzerman approaches larkins camp and tells him "you are under contract for 5 more years and we are not going to just give you away to make another team better. expand your list or we sit you or we can take the c from you and parade you out opening night to a riotous crowd to boo you into nothingness."
Yes

Because leaking it does f*** all to help Yzerman.

Not if its Dallas wanting Larkin.

They're already deep at center, sending Harley would make their defense weaker. I suppose they're interested in dealing Robertson, so it would be a deal around that. If anything, maybe they'll send us Hintz along with Robertson for Larkin++.

The thought did cross my mind that the story might've been leaked by someone in the front office.

FWIW, Elliotte Friedman said he heard a different team was on the list. So I wouldn't be too concerned about the three teams HSJ listed.
Helene does say the Free Press is citing NHL sources for the three teams she has. Friedman might be hearing additional teams forthcoming from a revised Larkin list? I mean, if I were Stevie, I'd take one look at those three teams and be like "Seriously, dude? Seriously? Fix your list or report to camp, the choice is yours."

If Wallstedt is any kind of piece in a Dylan Larkin trade, I'm going to f***in explode. You have two ostensibly blue-chip goalie prospects and one surprise good prospect. If you trade for another goalie, burning a 1C in the process without giving any of those three meaningful NHL time. You're just telling me you have no damn clue what you're doing.
He’s right you know.jpeg

Ah denial, the second stage of grief.
