Value of: Lane Hutson's off-season contract

A D in their rookie season pacing for 60pts? Crazy! That is like Gostisbehere good!
i mean, pre-hip surgery Ghost was pretty good. he never came close to those goalscoring totals afterwards tho.

Hutson isn't a goalscorer - he's a playmaker. not a good comparison

Even if he gets overpaid it will be worth it, the problem is when you have overpaid useless players like laine, Anderson etc.

I feel bad for reinbacher, he is already under so much pressure to perform in his rookie season after being selected over michkov and now he has to deal with a 2nd round pick on his team potentially winning the calder
If Reinbacher plays WITH Hutson it can only be good for his game. It would be a whole lot more pressure on Reinbacher WITHOUT a Hutson to lean on, having to play the role of franchise savior every night.

If Lane didn't exist, the entire Habs board would be on fire right now focusing on the reasons why Slafkovsky isn't the perfect reincarnation of Jaromir Jagr.

The leafs have consistently made the playoffs while the habs are coming off of three straight lottery finishes at the bottom of the league

There are a lot of teams that leaf fans are jealous of but montreal is not one of them

This thread has nothing to do with toronto, maybe you should focus on supporting Hutson instead of being so obsessed with the leafs?
The last time the Habs met the Leafs in the playoffs produced enough salt in Toronto to upset the universe's salt reserves.

Him and his agent would be absolutely crazy not to sign a bridge deal
A bridge deal could benefit both sides. Montreal gets extra two years on other end. A bridge deal say 6x2, then 12x8 takes Hutson until he is 32. Montreal gets next 10 years. At 32 his prime years be gone.

An 8x8 now only takes Hutson until he is 30. Montreal would have to redo him.

Probably 7.8m by 8 years. Doubt he jumps Suzuki

Suzuki signed 2 years ago though, in a flat cap environment.

The Canadiens seem to have a good team culture going for them so Hutson will probably sign for less than market value, but even then I doubt Hutson takes less than $8M-$8.5M per.

But if he does I will be pleasantly surprised.

I think Suzuki make 7.95m. close enough to get a long term deal done.

I can’t wait for him to force a short term bridge deal to just light it up and get an insane contract when it’s finished in 2-3 seasons.

When has Montreal giving a bridge contract to a young superstar OFD ever backfired?

Pay him 10M now and be happy it isn't 12 or 13 later.

He would be crazy to sign a deal like that now when the cap is getting ready to explode. If he continues on his current trajectory he will make more than that.
He can sign a similar deal with a reasonable by-cap-percentage adjustment. As a youngster, I'd do whatever I could to get the bulk of that contract paid upfront so I could compound interest the hell out of a 8 figure signing bonus. Well, as a more knowledgeable adult in Lane's shoes...

He has 1 more year so there is no real stress, that being said with every week of amazing play his price goes up. If the team gets their way its an 8 year deal at 9-10. If I was him id want a 3 year deal at 10. By then the cap has gone up aggressively and his number would be huge.
