Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Hockey is certainly evolving , this 5'6 shrimp is dominating on D and winning leverage and gap control battles all over the ice it makes no god dam sense how good he is lol

Freak is a really good way to describe him , guy is clearly obsessed with hockey, he's like a machine out there
Lidstrom was skinny as a stick with zero physicality… but his hockey IQ was off the charts.

As Max Lapierre said last night, Carbo would chew him out for not forechecking hard on Lidstrom using his body, to which he replied “Lidstrom saw me coming 60-seconds before I even showed up near him)”.

Like Lidstrom, Hutson is all about elite skate & stick positioning

I’m very curious to see how Hutson handles physically playoff targeting because he will be THE prime target before face offs, after play stops etc

I said it in another thread, but Michkov would need to outscore Hutson by 10 points and hit 30 goals to beat Hutson for the Calder at this point. In fact, I don’t think that’s even enough given what Hutson is doing as a DEFENCEMAN!

THG also said it on his recent pod… anyone who thinks Hutson is all offense needs to watch some games. Kid can play defence. He’s no Slavin but he’s no slouch.

Hutson is now heavily favored to win the Calder on pretty much every betting sites. -800 with 10 games left pretty much means it's a done deal, any debate now is kinda pointless

Bow down bitches! Didn't I tell you all??

While you were all sleeping at the wheel, I was the one who first brought up the possibility of those milestones and records, like 3 months ago. First to tell you all Hutson would be the clear frontrunner once he'd started to reach those. People doubted and there was a lot of hemming and hawing, but here we are!!

I was also the one who first brought it up to the mouthbreathing hordes of the main boards. Sasha even berated me for opening up the records and milestones thread over there, but wasn't it worth it now? Kiss my f***ing feet, my brethren!

Okay, I'm just kidding here, but goddamn this is one of those rare times it feels so good to be right. Let me bask in the sweet sweet glory of my prescience!!

I doubt very many of us have watched and not been impressed but I love the enthusiasm lol.

This kid makes games entertaining, he makes me tune in. Kind of like Edmonton fans talk about McDavid. Fun times for the next 15 years looks like.

If he doesn't win the Calder I will be so mad.

This kid has been overlooked at the draft because of his size.
Even before the season started many ''hockey mind/journalists'' thought his skating wasn't good enough, that he would get crush on the board, wouldn't win 1-on-1 battles....needed a year in the AHL

He proved all of them wrong...from the teams, GM, scouting teams, journalists, expert....all of them.
Now it's time to acknowledge him.

He is a franchise player, nothing less.

when Mack had a few more points or was a little ahead of Hutson, I thought he’d win the Calder - writers love the profile of the center.

However, Hutson is leaving them with no choice. He’s running away with it.
Hutson has firmly had the rookie scoring lead, as a defenseman, for all of 2025. It was frankly bizarre to see any other player considered a favourite to win while seeing that.

These last 2 games have been the nail in the coffin for the Calder “race”.

If lane didn’t play another game this year he’d still win

To be honest I would prefer Hutson not win (even though he’s all but guaranteed to win)….wouldn’t mind one but watching Hutson take his game another notch up just “to show’em”…

Havn't followed the Habs much this season, but every time I tune in is a fun time :)
Also pretty excited at the prospect of seeing Hutson having the best offensive season for a Habs defenseman in 40 years!

Because Hutson’s hunger factor would reach the next level of “unheard of”.. just to stick it to the voters

Hutson is one of the few that do not need outside motivation. He’s driven to be the best he can be.

Imagine how good he’ll be when his shot improves and he gets a bit physically stronger with age?

I still can’t believe there was people here trying to tell me his extension would be less than Suzuki’s. At this rate we’ll be lucky to resign him for less than 10m a year.
