Even Garry Galley, the hab hater, says give this kid the Calder, and call it a day.................he knows how hard it is to do in the NHL what this kid has done, especially as a rookie.
That's pretty impressive. I still want Connor Bedard on our team like crazy. But nobody predicted how Lane would impact our team this much. Pretty crazy if you ask me. This kid is from another dimensionLol

But all we hear is "but he doesn't have Hughes's speed, so he'll never be able to be as good defensively"
If you ask me, Hutson has only begun to impress us and knowing his intense drive to get better, his better skating you mentioned, being a salient example of this, has much more to show.
I like and dislike your optimism.
The rebuild looks good so far, however, growing pains still. We need Slaf to really keep progressing and not regressing. We need Demidov's impact to translate. But as important, we need Reinbacher to stay healthy and become our anchor. He is the key to all of this rebuild. We need Hutson's partner and we have it in DR. We just need him to stay healthy and dominate. He's our secret weapon.

All the pieces is there. Busts can happening, but Demidov and Hutson are likely to become franchise pieces to this team.
Slaf is already a really good hockey player, he just need to up his game in the beginning of the season because last year and this year, he play a really really good 2nd half of season.
Hage, Reinbacher and Fowler, if they reach all their potential, that's aswell HUGES pieces for the rebuild.
But the future is more than strong and Habs management have picks, prospects to make great deals to make this team even better!!
The real strength of our depth chart is we already have a #1C, #1D, and several high level wingers. Any high end prospect coming in to the fold isn't going to have to do it alone or be a 65pt player getting chastised for not being an 85pt player. We actually have top talent in addition to quantity of prospects
I don't get why people say Galley's a Hab hater. He's always praised our players.
The problem is that we haven't had many players worthy of being praised for a long time. We've had mostly terrible teams. What's the guy supposed to say?
Galley is a Bruin..........he has always as an announcer slighted the habs whenever he gets a chance...........passive agressive comments left and right......terrible colour guy on top of it.
I think people tend to read stuff into things that aren’t there sometimes. He heaped tons of praise in guys who deserve it. But he rips teams when they mess up. That’s his job.

Btw I will not subscribe to the toxic positivity of it was an amazing rookie class if Hutson doesn't win it. I think if Hutson doesn't win he is straight up robbed and I will be salty about it.
Him doing what he's doing as an undersized defenseman has to factor in his favor IMO. He's not just having a good season, he's having a good season with a higher difficulty level. That would be my mindset if I were voting on it, in any case.
His biggest competitor at this point is Wolf. If Calgary make the playoffs he’ll get a lot of votes.
This thing is going down to the wire. Celebrini has always been the favorite and I mentioned months ago Lane will have to distance himself points wise to up end the front runner.
Personally for me what Hutson has done has been far more impactful and the fact that it isn't resonating on the betting sites is worrysome. The Habs making the playoffs would be a clincher IMO.

Not really. For one, he's leading. A dman leading an all-skaters category should be a lock. Nevermind PPG as Celebrini is only around +0.1 ppg more than Hutson, which is 1/3 of the usual minimal difference between top forwards and dmen. Some seasons, the top scorer can go up to about +0.6 in PPG over the top dman.
Above all though, Hutson doesn't need distance, as all he really needs is to continue his pace and attain rare rookie D milestones, which he's well on his way of doing. At minimum, he should be between top 5 and top 10 all-time rookie D in points. Top 2 in assists. Top 5 in ES pts. Those milestones alone should be enough to win it.
He's a total lock if he beats a record. He's 12 assists in 16 games away from Murphy's assist record. Lane has 37 assists in his last 45 games. He's pacing 4 assists every 5 games and he needs 3 assists every 4 games to tie the record.
The distance requirement is entirely misguided.
Oh, right, I forgot. He's also top 10 in points among all Ds on the season. Celebrini and Michkov aren't even in the top 50 for forwards.
Assuming Hutson finishes close to 70 points, I think he SHOULD win. Will he? I’m not so sure.
