Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Very well said.
How does Wolf rank vs other goalies this year?

Top 5 to top 15, depending on the category. That's in the season. I don't know how he fares among rookie Gs, but iirc he's not close to any records or milestones.

I just don't buy the "carry to the playoffs" arguments as Habs would also be far from the playoffs without Hutson. They've both been tremendous in helping their teams to stay in the playoff race. The big difference is Hutson is having a historic rookie D season.

Assuming Hutson finishes close to 70 points, I think he SHOULD win. Will he? I’m not so sure.

There continues to be nonsense spread out there about him being bad defensively. Like it or not the narrative is that small guys can’t defend. His (undeserved) reputation is that he’s a one way player.

Bedard won last year with a -44

Hutson is +1 at 5v5.

NHL should seriously consider removing empty net situations from ES stats.

Looking at both of their seasons from 30 years out, what on earth makes Wolfs season comparable to what Hutson is doing?
Hutson would be my choice. Especially if he leads all rookie scorers. Hitting 70 would be another biggie.

With goalies it’s a little different. You’ve seen first hand what happened to Carey Price’s numbers when they gutted the team and he was the best goalie in the league.

If Wolf drags a bad club to the postseason it deserves consideration. He’s having an amazing year.

But yeah, Hutson would be my choice (assuming his season continues as it has.) and I don’t say that because he’s a Hab.

For the record, I thought it was totally wrong when Theodore won the MVP over Iginla.
