The narrative from Wetcoast on the main is now that Hutson will not be as good in the playoffs.

But he is clutch because his compete level is high. Imo, his compete level will be even higher in the playoffs.

(I would've liked your post, but I spent too much time on the main ;))
Wetcoast doesn't know shit. No poster can predict what he's going to be in the postseason. He's been shit talking Hutson all year and should be ignored. For some reason he really has it out for him and when I read stuff like that, I tune them out.

There's obviously a disadvantage in terms of size but he's had that his whole life. He played just fine in the playoffs in Boston and I see no reason to believe he won't play well here.

Some guys have a real competitive edge to them. PK Subban had it. And I think Hutson has it as well. Nobody is going to know until it happens but to anyone who's sitting there saying this guy can't get it done in the playoffs when he's never even played a postseason game, they don't know jack shit about what they're talking about. I'm optimistic that Hutson will be just as good in the playoffs as otherwise. He's a gamer. We will have to wait and see.

Not a good showing and the -5 is ugly to look at but I have no doubt this will be learning experience for him and the whole team. One person doesn't lose a 3 goal lead and give up 7 goals. We were going to get blown out eventually, this team was really riding on cloud nine and some adversity was always around the corner.

Definitely a bad one, but the Habs missed so many opportunities to score. The game could have been 8-7, and Hutson +/- would have been better.

I'm still kind of surprised they lost this game. At 3-0, still getting the best chances, I would have never guessed they'd get scored on seven times.

the way nylander burned him multiple times he needs to get faster and stronger.
I mean he was half a second late to react to that Nylander breakaway but it's hardly his fault that Armia decides to pass to stone hands Anderson in the middle instead of sending it back to Hutson who was much more available. If you look at all the goals scored last night I would say that he only really shoulders the blame for one- and a half of them.

The Nylander goal looks rough since he couldn't prevent Nylander from scoring even by causing a penalty shot with his holding, but it's not like he can leave the zone a second early either since he'd kill the offensive cycle then when he's no longer a passing option. Just didn't expect Anderson to completely fumble the puck, even if with his track record it's hardly a surprise. Being a faster skater or stronger physically would have helped sure, but that's just something for the future.

The SHG from Matthews is a clear misjudgement from him for sure, even if it all begins with yet another Laine turnover. He probably never expected a dangerous shot to come from so far out of the crease right near the blueline, but since the guy he left open is the best goal scorer in the league he should have known better. An unobstructed slap shot from the point is something that you'd really want your goalie to catch though, even if it comes from a quick give and go to Matthews.

Hutson ended up finishing the game at a -0.47 on-ice xG differential, worst out of all the defensemen we had for sure but not even close to having a game that I'd call terrible. You still need to shelter him a bit though and have him play less 5v5 minutes with guys like Dvorak, Anderson or Laine who are all just turnover machines at this point. Hutson is not someone you want to have defending odd man rushes.

You learn by making mistakes and through adversity.

Hutson will grow and bounce back from this.

Bad game or not, he's a rookie. It's to be expected. Still, he's 1 point away from Subban's rookie season. With 32 games less played. 26 assists from the D rookie record, with 37 games to play. 23 assists in his last 24 games.

And as bad as Hutson was, many share the blame, Monty included. I expect misshaps from a rookie, but not from a goalie desiring to be Canada's netminder. Should give more games to Da Besht.

Lane has to be better.

Pure Laine too.

I don't even think we have to excuse his night to being a "Rookie" either to feel better about ourselves or him lol.

Teams get blown out every day even Fox Hughes Makar Karlsson Doughty Keith Subban Markov get dogwalked on some night why are we overreacting to his first actual bad game in like 30 games lol.

It's also a team game they all collapsed and played like crap at the end. I know you as a poster understand this but I just wished others would as well lol

Classic mainboard going back to dunking on him after his worst game of the season as if he didn't just play like a superstar defenseman for the past 15 games against top teams.

“I just gotta be better. That’s plain and simple. I gotta be better for my teammates and better for the fans for sure. I just gotta be better all around."

If you remember, NHL commentators were super down on Subban too just as Subban was taking over the league as a Hab. Their criticism of Hutson portends good things to come :)

Caufield and Hutson are simply incredible this season.
