I know Hughes D was widely criticized in his sophomore year, was it better on his rookie year? Did he play as hard minutes as Hutson did? Genuinely asking.

It shouldn’t be controversial to make this comparison imo. Didn’t Hutson get to 30 points faster than Hughes and Makar as rookies?

I see no reason he can’t be as good as them in his prime.

The issue is HF main boarders are unreliable.

They saw Hughes being small and they saw a couple of highlights even though every rookie D gets burned and they went with that narrative. They did the same with Hutson this and last year, during his two games when he didn't even have time to learn the hybrid coverage system.

If you took away every single PP point he has and let every other rookie keep their PP points, he would still be 5th in rookie scoring (21 points), as a D, ahead of forward Cutter Gauthier.

Hutson has 3 goals and 21 assists in the last 22 games and is +9 during that period.

He is 22nd in the entire league in points since Nov 27th.

6th in overall D scoring. Hoe's mad.

It's a remarkable run and one of the main reasons our team has cut their goal differential to -12 from -31.

He's better now... we'll see about three years from now.

I think it's interesting that Hutson's having a very similar rookie year to what Hughes did. And since Carriere's arrival, Hutson's play has accelerated. Won't surprise me if he's at 70 by year's end.

Sure, but far from the best forward rookie season in recent times (Barzal, 85 pts), whereas Hutson might hit top 5 or even top 3 all time rookie D, something that hasn't been donein decades.

Salt is rarely justified. It's fueled by lame tribal behavior.

Maybe, but I think its reasonable to acknowledge just how good Celebrini has looked defensively. Points are one thing (and Celebrini has 31 in 34 games), but unlike the rookie years of guys like Bedard, Barzal, etc. he's effective defensively too. That's incredibly rare.

Exactly. Celebrini is perhaps the best rookie forward in the last 5-7 years. Hutson is the best rookie defenseman in the last 35-40 years.

Listen yall motherf***ers, I was present at the Bell Centre at the 2022 draft, I screamed at Wright "CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU IN A HABS JERSEY" on the red carpet and he smirked at me next to his weird looking sister. I also saw Stéphane Leroux and said "Monsieur Lacroix, comment ça va!" he then responded with an annoyed tone "C'pas Lacroix mais c'pas grave" (oops) we then took a picture together.

Then Slaf got picked, the sound coming from the Bell Centre vibrated into my whole body (a great experience). A bit of shock then happiness. I'm still happy, Slaf is the man and f*** the impatient haters.

Anyways, I was there also on the next day, I remember thinking about Hutson during the second round and saw that players were picked and he was still available, until #62. When the Habs picked him, I told my clueless friend that it was an amazing pick with loads and loads of upsides, I've had never seen a player like him so I was incredibly happy after years of Timmins, the Habs were finally aiming for big upsides instead of the boring bust pick.
I saw him walk next to Chantal Machabée going for his interviews with journalists, they looked like a mom bringing her child to his first kindergarden day. Dude was TINY. I didn't CARE.

Then the rest is history. Love you Lane since day one, I'll always remember draft day 2022.

I also was there on the 2nd day. I was praying that the Habs will pick him with the 62nd pick. God answered my call.

He really aimed the puck at Caulfield's stick and the pass is spot on.

Posters told me before the season started that Matheson was fine and no way should Hutson be on PP1 to start though.

Just like they say Demidov shouldn't be on the top line and PP1 next year for reasons.
