Player Discussion Lane Hutson Part 2

Hutson is one of the most unique players in history. People make comparisons but I have a hard time finding a player that looked like him historically.

I was dead wrong about the risk of his translatability. Like Michel Bergeron trading Raymond Bourque in Junior, just a pure blunder that will follow me on here, deservingly.

Then again, few could have predicted he would be that good, that fast. We are in the best timeline among all possibilities.

Your transgressions regarding Hutson are forgiveable, while your love for Bergevin is not and is what will ultimately follow you! ;)

As they say on the main board "it's just a hot streak"

19 points in his last 19 games, +7 at 5v5

Watchout Macklin

They don't know that's when he was promoted to PP1 and never looked back. Let them think it's just a streak.

NHLnetwork pick the guys on American teams instead of the American??? May Lane use this as fuel for his next multi points game. :madfire:

It's anti-habs bias, plain and simple, especially picking Michkov... like wtf?

f***ing talkingheads, man.

Can't wait for Lane to prove them wrong.

Also, didn't Weekes play for San Jose? Ain't no bias there, right.

I have seen both Celebrini and Mitchkov played. These players don't have the fires that Hutson displayed when his team is tied or behind.

The Maestro is what he is. A Maestro.
Sidenote:

I went into a restaurant about 15 years ago. Who was sitting there? None other than one hit wonder Maestro Fresh Wes. He had a letterman's jacket on with the word 'Maestro' embroidered on it.

And, he was conductin' thangs...

At first when him and Matheson were put together I thought it'd be a disaster, but they have actually really improved as a pairing and are playing big minutes without being sheltered.

Matheson can be frustrating at times with some of his decisions, however he's improved on the right side which has been huge in allowing Guhle to play back on his natural side.
The greatest improvement on D for me has been Mike Matheson. His attitude and willingness to embrace a completely different role has impressed me. He's currently a better more focused Dman providing more value to this team than at any point last season.

I like how Hutson lets Matheson carry the puck and Lane puts himself in the middle of the rink sort of as a rover. The play where he set up Gally who then missed the open net vs the canucks was the 1st time I noticed this set up. They did it again yesterday near the end of the game but it did not generate a scoring chance. It definitely confused the nucks D the other night. I look forward to seeing this team grow as Lane continues to adjust and improve in the NHL. Is it game time yet???

Quick quick on Matheson; as a detractor of MM, I’ll say he’s better on the right because he’s less confident there, meaning he has way less impulse to overdo things. He has to keep it simple and just play the basics, which he surprisingly does very well. A less out of control Matheson is wayyyy better than free rein MM. He simply does not have all the necessary qualities to be that kind of D. He does have the skating but everything else is behind.

Also, he had no business on the PP so that’s great too now that Lane gets the minutes. I’m happy with the pairing for now, when we replace him with a real RD we’ll be cooking.

Matheson is getting less difficult match-ups (Guhle/Carrier are taking the bulk of that now). He's just in a better chair and has simplified his game on the right side which only helped him in the end.

The thing I like most about him is the speed. I wouldn’t call us an especially speedy team and he brings that dimension to us.

His pairing is on with Suzuki often enough. Is our first line getting softer match ups too?
