“Here’s what most people don’t understand about Lane Hutson: The offensively gifted players will always win because there are never five defensively gifted players on the ice. Teams can game plan, but it won’t change anything.

We shouldn’t be wondering if he’ll become one of the best offensive defensemen in the NHL. He already is. He’s already there. His ceiling will be determined by his defensive growth. Chances are, he’s already more gifted offensively than the defenseman running the power play for your favorite team.” - Scott Wheeler

Guys...with what you know now ( just for the fun of it) ...you are building a team...who you choose first:

Suzuki
Slaf
Caufield
Hutson

I am curious.

Hard to conclude off of 10 games. We have not seen hutson go through the rigours of an NHL season.

The safe answer is Suzuki. He's the center and he plays best when the stakes are highest.

Hutson has the potential, and is showing certain glimpses of being better though.

imo, Demidov and Dach should be options. Not too late for Dach.

BUT, I know this is just a question, but we really need a wealth of talent. It takes more than one star to contend.

I think, in 3-4 years, Norris votes

Said it before and I'll say it again, Caufield has the highest ceiling. He has superstar potential. He'll never be the complete player that others are, but the guy piles up goals and has a great offensive sense. He's not perfect but when you score the way he does, you don't have to be.

Still needs to prove it. Even if he has a great season this year, still needs to do it consistently. But I think he has the capability to be among the absolute best scorers in the league.

Out of all those guys?

it's tough between Slaf and Caufield. I see Caufield as a guy who can consistently score close to 50 goals a year if healthy. Slaf will be a much more complete player and I think rack up some points. Those goals are so valuable though. I'd probably lean CC. If CC had been healthy, I think we'd have seen a couple of 45-50 goal years already.

Hutson is very interesting but his size and position knocks him down from the others. He could easily be the best of the group. A true unicorn in how he plays.

Suzuki is the most solid, reliable player on that list. Ultimately though, he doesn't have the upside that the others do. A complete, consistent player who is also extremely versatile but I don't see him being truly elite at anything. The others are somewhat unique in what they bring and Nick is probably the most easily replaced. That's not to say he isn't a great player or that he'd be easy to replace... but the others bring something that's really hard to find elsewhere. And while I find him consistently good, he's not consistently great. He's streaky and I'd like to see him level up more.

I'd probably draft it: Caufield, Slaf, Hutson and Suzuki.

Easy lol
Demidov.
Another interesting player. I haven't seen enough of him to comment.

But think about the players we have now... Demidov, Slaf, CC, Hutson, Suzuki. That's a sick amount of talent. And RB will hopefully bring another dimension as well. It's a great up and coming team and the next few years are going to be so exciting to watch.

Add Guhle. And on the prospect side, Hage and Fowler.

He's a ray of sunshine when watching games. By himself on PP2 he's making PP1 look uninspired despite the forward quality imbalance.

He makes mistakes of course but he doesn't take a shift off and even on the PK he's been effective, if they could play him 45mn per game I would be up for it.

Reinbacher looks like the perfect fit with Hutson (surprise...) also can't wait to see Hutson & Demidov together next year.
