I didn't think that really warranted anything.. Domi took a stupid penalty like he always does.
One of our defenseman had a chance to blow him up coming out of the box after (he got a bit of a sui pass) but didn't take the chance which I found pretty disappointing. Gotta nip that kind of stuff in the bud when you have the chance.

Personally, I'd let Domi continue to do what he does best, shoot his team in the foot with stupid penalties.

Yeah, problem with that is you're forgetting what he actually does best: unexpectedly jumping people who get the best of him, which Hutson is sure to do repeatedly.

It's more being realistic than negative. I mean, weren't we one the worst PP last year? Matheson is just not a good PP QB.
6th worst! But it was worst in the 1st half of the season than the 2nd half (once Slaf was put on it), but it also kinda returned to shit by the end of the season.

But Matheson on PP1 to start the season when Hutson is clearly the superior PP QB already would just show MSL trying to please a vet. Hutson does everything better than Matheson: controlled zone entries, passing, controlling the opponent box to create space, walking the blue line, pass reception, creating rebounds...

Since 2013-2014 the Habs have the single worst regular season PP. :thumbu:

Since 2017-2018: T-29th with ANA and PHI, 0.1% ahead of CBJ

Since 2021-2022: 31st 15.8%, ahead of PHI's 13.4%

Unless Mailloux sticks out over the coming 3 preseason games I am all in on having him play 20+ minutes a night in Laval.
Yeah I think it just makes sense. Mailloux has looked good but he definitely still has things he could learn in the AHL. With Barron being waiver eligible (and looking pretty good so far in preseason) it just makes sense to start the season this way.

I agree with you.

But it won't be from the start of the season. Hutson has all the attributes to be a better QB, but he still needs to practice and work on it. He needs to understand the system and do repetitions. It will come soon enough.

Hutson should (and probably will) reach 180lbs. He'd be the same height/weight than Q.Hughes.

Pretty sure with some muscle mass he won't lose speed but could gain a bit by creating more power.

I love the kid already and he's only 20. Not all guys are physically mature at 20 let alone 18.
He needs more mass and strength for sure. My hopes are that his shot get just a bit heavier and he gains more strength and power in his legs. Getting just a bit faster at top speed would do wonders for his game.

Phil Housley comparison is good one. I can see similarities in both players
I don’t think there’s a really good comparison for him, besides a few current players.

He plays a modern game - concepts so different than even 10 years ago. Coaches 20 years ago would have killed him if he did what he does now - offensively and defensively.

Seems like I was dead wrong about this guy.

Looking more and more like the real deal.
You don't say! Not you?!

he will be on it from the start imo
Incredibly unlikely as they will not just arbitrarily demote Matheson.

As I have maintained since we traded for Laine, there needs to be two strong PP's with Laine, Hutson and Dach being the nucleus of the 2nd unit. More of a 1a,1b situation depending on which unit is fresher.
