No chance Hutson starts on pp1 over Matheson.
Hutson could be there at the 15-game mark, but there is no way Marty put him there for game 1 over Matheson who put up a lot of pp points last season.

I don't expect Demidov to start on pp1 either when he arrives next season.

That's how you develop high end offensive talent, put them in the best position as Hutson/Demidov will be our most skilled players. If you can't put your most skilled players on your top PP unit then I don't know what the f*** you are doing.

Starting in the 2nd pp unit for the like first 15 games of the season isn't going to hurt their development at all...

Slaf wasn't used on the pp at all when he started his nhl career.

It would be extremely disappointing if the org/MSL deemed Hutson good enough for opening night but not good enough to man PP1. Matheson has plenty of good qualities, controlling the puck at the line is simply not one of them

That's the most likely scenario imo, so prepare for extreme disappointment I guess.

I hope Hutson gets lots of PP1 time this year, but putting him on PP2 also gives us some good options there.

Even if Hutson comes in and looks better in that role than Matheson, there's a "hierarchy tax" he has to pay out before just giving him the role.

I feel like this is just always how it works, it's relatively meritocratic, but it's not instant.

I may go against the crowd, but to me the question about how he will wow everyone and be our PP QB is a lot of projection.

The QB role belong to Matheson, the offensive starts belong to Matheson, so how can Hutson be added value on a second PP wave and be at least replacement level at defense? Is the real question.

If his defense is subpar it makes no sense to have an offense specialist that is your secondary offense weapon.

If Matheson goes down with injury then Hutson takeover and possibly never look back.
From the recent info we have it seems like team defense will be a big priority this year. In that case Matheson will surely be reined in and we won't see nearly as many ridiculous plays. Hutson probably starts on PP2, but I'm sure they will give him every opportunity to succeed and he'll take over for Matheson with or without injury.

Matheson was never really regarded as a great PMD or poor defensively until he joined the Habs. In a system with more structure he probably plays a much more well rounded game.

Been watching this team for seven decades and haven't been this excited since they brought in colour TV.

You can see the building blocks that Hughes is assembling: highly skilled talent surrounded by large, mobile, physically imposing players. I can't wait to see what Hughes does with those 7 high draft choices over the next two years and the cap flexibility he will undoubtedly create once he flushes out the host of overpaid, underperforming veterans from the team's roster.

Good managers/leaders are difficult to find in all walks of life. When you find one its like a breath of fresh air. The next few years should be both interesting and entertaining. The other teams should be as concerned as some of us are optimistic.
In my mind other day I was comparing this team to '70s team. Player by player. Is Suzuki Lemaire? Could Demidov be Lafleur. Peter M a Dach? Goal Caufield a Road Runner? Laine a Shutt.

Bowman coaching and Dryden with Big Three. We still another draft and UFA signing short

I think that’s the most I’ve listened to Steve Dangle in one sitting.

I don’t need to hear any more. I guess the formula here is to be beyond obnoxious.
None of these guys look like they have an actual 12 minute attention span. I blame energy drinks and Youtube shorts addiction.

Pierre Mcguire: Who was the General Manager the traded for Adam Fox? You don't think he knows the impact somebody like that has in an organization? Adam fox doesn't have the pure offensive game that Lane Hutson has. Who had better numbers in College? Lane Hutson. They know what Adam Fox did in New York, they know, they know he won the Norris Trophy.
