I'm 5'8 and 155 lbs and my ribs show. An NHLer being listed as 5'10, 162 lbs scares me a bit, no matter how fast they are.
And he's not actually "fast", just very shifty and smart.

What I will say is that Lane was a bit sturdier than I thought he would be. Even though he weighs 20 pounds less than Victor Mete did when he started with us, Hutson engaged in battles last night more than Mete ever did. He has also improved his backward skating about 20%. A lot more is needed I think, but it's encouraging that he is putting in the effort.

Let's give a full season in Laval then re-evaluate.

I think he actually did very well, might make Harris or Struble available sooner than later…
Struble fills a different need. He is Savard's eventual replacement as a solid 4/5 D.

In two years, if Matheson can be moved for a top-6 forward:
Guhle-Reinbacher
Struble-Mailloux
Hutson-Xhekaj
spare: Barron (or Engstrom if ready)

If all these guys hit their potential, it’s the best D in the league from 1-7. Would love to see it.

With his iq, passing and shiftiness , I definitely see the potential to be a great quarterback. I’m glad he just played his game more or less and took that opportunity in OT (I think it got blocked). I also like how he knows when to step up and stick check before things get going. Clearly he’s never going to be a great defensive defenceman but now that he’s with the team, I’m sure he’ll improve. You can see issues a couple times when opponents got a step on him he just doesn’t have the weight yet to steer them away. He did limit the chances, but they still drove to the net. Not an “A” scoring chance, but still a chance. I totally believe he’ll come to camp closer to 175.

The best play honestly was the pass to Evans off the face off. He's gonna help Cole and Slaf score a lot of goals with passes like that.
to quote Jake Evans "he doesn't know still i am not the shooter on the team" lol

He could easily have had 10 more pts EASY this season except Boston had one consistent scorer. I don't want to even imagine what his stats would have been in boston college.

The best part about Lane is that he is a threat 5 on 5 and he has a second and third gear when his team needs a goal. Saw it all year. He is a not JUST a PP QB, he is increidible 5 on 5 and his breakout passes are as good as they come.

This is it right here. He will help generate so much offence from the back end. Mailloux is the same. We are going to be a far more dangerous team next year. I hope they shift Caufield to Dach's wing, it will create very tough match ups for opposing teams.

If Hutson can moderately improve his defensive positioning and awareness, he could reach Hughes/Makar heights.

Did Evans really say that? LOL

I would assume he broke the record for the NHL's lightest defensemen ever. 162 lbs is insane for a defensemen. Though I have no clue if there's been any D that light, it just seems he would be the lightest ever.

Sam Girard played at 162 lbs as a 19 year old rookie, I think Mac Hollowell was around that last year too but other than that I don't think there was anyone lighter.

That was a pretty great debut for Hutson and obviously there were highs and lows, but this was not a kid who was afraid of the moment and he played his game, albeit a bit more tempered.

Let's see how he does tonight but this kid could legitimately just be one of those special ones.
I am happy to see is skating, which was actually pretty damn good! It makes his slender frame less an issue, but he still needs to gain some mass for the grind of 82. I am all aboard the Hutson-Reinbacher train.

Quite happy with what I saw last night. We all knew that he was small and that he wouldn't dominate physically. It was also predictable that he may have issues with the defensive scheme with so little practice with the team. So my focus was on vision, execution speed, decision making and skating, and what I saw was a guy that has NHL skills for sure. He's not slow (not fast either), his decision making is quick and I think I only saw two plays where I think he had better options. Also, I didn't see him being pushed off the puck on a consistent basis. He moves the puck so efficiently that he can avoid lot of contact. I like what I saw and looking forward to see how he fair tonight again, but should he repeat... he may start the season in MTL next Fall. Soooo many LD...

Relax, it was his first game. Hell even the best of the best got lost in dzone from time to time. He will be fine in the dzone just because of his zone exit. He don't seem to panic even when te pressure is on witch will help him a lot
I literally wrote he was amazing :) He will struggle in his own end due to his weakness, but he competes hard and I like that. What I am saying, I see him as a player with specific role in the team (PP and Ozone starts), not a standard top 4D.

He definitely likes to pinch and join the rush. A lot of times you'll see rookie D play it safe and stay back and recoil. I like that he wasn't afraid to play his game and kept a few plays alive in the O-zone with good decisions to pinch. It's nice to know he can get back in a hurry too if he does get caught high. He probably would have liked to recoil back a little sooner on that OT goal but he'll figure that out. I did notice once or twice that his gap control was a bit off. He gave guys a bit too much space a couple times. But that can also be chalked up to figuring things out and I wouldn't worry about that for now. Overall you can see the smarts and the skill. Definitely a St-Louis type defenseman.

If his skills are so rare, and given the Habs had no one like him and how all contending teams have one of his ilk, why did the Habs not select him earlier than 62nd? All these superlatives and they play with fire for no apparent reason.

for the same reason Caufield fell to us at 15, GMs often overrate height.

This is the perfect game since he did well and showed some flash but it wasn’t a dominant performance so he can’t just sit back he should be motivated to have a good off season.

This kid won't be in Laval next season, that i am sure of, he will give management no other choice than keep him in Montréal.

His skills will show even more playing with guy's who can read him on the ice once they get use to each other.

It's like looking into the future. Really excited for you guys to see this kid take off. He has the benefit of seeing players 5 years older having blazed a trail. The game is starving for the elusive ankle-breakers on the back end that can shake checks by moving to E/W off the line.
