I know someone that has him ranked very highly. So I thought I'd give him his rankings.

Wish I continued with the ranks going higher. Seems people really have him ranked much lower.
Well since you left the ranking kind of open I just assumed for the rest of the season if I was constructing a team for a sC run so I took 71+.

With different criteria he would be higher but nothing I see here is a top 32 Dman or true #1 Dman but maybe he grows into that...who knows.

I mean he seems like a top 4 mostly offensive D man. What does that put a guy at? I mean if you call him an elite #3 damn overall game wise he is in the top 70. I’d be happy to see evidence of him being higher than that. I’m going with top 90 or so I guess. People (mtl people) are going to say I’m being a hater or something, but being a top 90 anything in the world is pretty amazing.

Would he be a top 2 on most teams right now? Probably not, he'd be sheltered despite the potential. Montreal can get away with it right now but most teams can't. So if we're going right now, I think anybody voting above 30 is basing that on potential and him being a rookie.

If you dislike Hutson and can't stand him, he's the 4th or 5th best rookie
Realistically, he's 3rd behind Michkov and Celebrini, at worst
Would be a more fair comparison. It would take me so long to figure out where I ranked Hutson after 32 nhl games. Hard to put him ahead of good nhl vets. This poll should remain open for 5 years.

Hockey is a sport of mistakes. 1st grade basics we've all been thought right? Hutson knows that. He isn't scared of making mistakes. like how a pro skateboarder jumps the stairs.

Yes, but Montreal's #1D is Guhle.

Every time I hear his name...

Offensively he's pretty darn good. But he's a Dman, so he needs to learn the other side of the game to be at the top of the league. On and do it for more than 1/3 of a season. 40-50 becuase I'm feeling generous.

He's the new Erik Karlsson, a tier below but still damn impressive, 2nd best Habs player

Based on which metric?
I think you could be right and i would be happy.

At worst but he'd made this a race. Neck and neck between the 3.

I mean, won't be long that top10 should be considered, dude is insane.

Trust me, I know and agree (see history). I was moreso poking fun that the poll was cutoff at 15 and the comments at the start laughing about how he isn't even top 70. 42.6% picked 71+. He causally sits 7th in points for defensemen in his rookie season and is +1 at even strength when Montreal spent most of the season near the bottom until the past month.

Lane plays every position. He is put on defense to control the play. It might be a new school strategy in kids league to put your best player on defense now, instead of at center. Watch last game occasionally he would breakout as winger or center when he sees the play, a forward would stay with Matheson behind the net to play the forecheck.

Those that voted 70+ I would love to see the names they start dropping once they get past the top 40 or 50 NHL defensemen.

Of course a lot of them voted without ever watching Hutson play so its understandable.

There would be the 70.

Note, he's absolutely lit it up since December 16th (poll date) with an absolutely stellar 58% xGoals share (he was at 44.87% on the season on december 16th), moving him past a number of these guys (15 starred guys I'd say he's moved past).

From this point on he will continue to move up assuming he maintains the current level of play. Over the last 10 games he's played at a top 20 level.
