Has Hutson passed Matheson in everyone's eyes for Montreal's 1D?
If not, we're talking about the #2 defensman on one of the worst teams in the league...

Need to do this poll at the end of the year.

Are you confused? Do you not understand what I'm saying about how his shots against, scoring chances against, etc. don't reflect that he sacrificed defense for offense?

Why would I read anything and weep? Do you think I'm a Senators fan?
I’m sorry that you are finding this difficult to accept

Offensively, he's probably already a top 20 defenseman, and arguably top 10 PPQB. But he's got a long ways to go defensively before he can be considered a top pairing dman, though I think he could get there.

I'd probably categorize him as a #3-5 dman at 5v5, who is a very capable PP1 QB.

I think you could go team by team and come up with 1-3 dman above him, so I'd have him in the 70+ range.

Going through the metro for example as a proxy (although WSH Car and NJD all have VERY good and deep dcores so he likely does better compared to different divisions)

Luke, Hamilton, Siegs, Kovy, Pesce
Fehervary, Sandin, Chychrun, Carlson, Roy, TVR*
Slavin, Burns (although he may be completely getting carried by Slavin at this point), Orlov, Ghost*
Fox,
Werenski, Severson, Provorov*
Sanheim, Risto*
Karlsson, Pettersson, Letang*
Dobson, Pulock, Romanov*

A few debatable ones that I'd have to do a deeper dive into.

He wouldn't be ahead of Toews Makar or Girard or the Avs depth chart that's for sure. I bet there are a few teams where he'd be behind 3 guys as well.

I'd probably put him 4th or 5th on the Bruins. McAvoy, Lindholm, Lohrei, Carlo, Zadarov, Peeke...

Hard to compare him to stay at home guys like Carlo and Zadarov.

I guess like Anaheim, maybe SJS?
Maybe. I like Zellweger and Mintyukov though, and Walman is having a great year.

On which team would he be a number 1?
Habs, Ducks, Sharks, Hawks, Kings (minus Doughty)

Im the first to say hes not a steady all around Dmen yet, but his offensive game does have more weight than say what a: Jake Trouba, Jake Walman, or Seth Jones brings overall, imo.... Very similar to Quinn in his rookie season. Not perfect, but very highly skilled, and does play 23 min/game.

If Hutson was playing top mins on am acutal top team in the league, were talking 25+ assists already. But yes I understand a top team would limit his minutes too since theyd be deeper.

This kind of shit can't be taken seriously. There are 3 dman in the league with 25+ assists. It is disrespectful to all the elite dman who are MAKING their teams elite to suggest they are simply being carried.

Does the same apply to Power? or how many points would Jake Walman have on an elite team considering he's got 22 in 28 games on an absolute disaster show in SJS? Or Byram in Buff? Or Vlasic in chicago? Or Karlsson in pitt, how many would he get on a better team? Or heck, is mike matheson also gonna get this massive boost on a better team?

Werenski DOES play for a shit show, that doesn't even have a single star on it offensively and he DOES have 31 points. Is he better than Makar? Heck Severson has 17 points with
less than a minute of PP time a night, ALL EV points. How many does he get on a better team?

Why does his offensive game have more weight than Walmans? Walman has more points in less games on an also awful team?

Also disrespectful as hell to Gavrikov and Anderson in LA, Vlasic and Jones in Chi, and Walman in SJS

Maybe. Again, it's hard to compare what he brings to the table vs those more well rounded, or defensive guys.

Imagine how many points Erik Karlsson would have scored in 22-23 if he was on a good team. He might have broken the single season scoring record for dmen.

indeed... I mean most would take an all around 45-50 point Dman over a 65 point PP specialist, but I honestly dont see Hutson as a 1 dimensional DMan at all after 30 games. For one the kid has 40 blk shots in 30GP, on pace for 109. Thats the same pace as what Makar and Fox have this season, and is more than Hughes.

Furthermore, he only has 7 PPP out of his 20 total (35%).

Quinn Hughes 14 PPP of 34 = 41%
Fox 11 of 25 = 44%

In no way am I saying hes as good as them, as he does try to do a little too much, and is hence, very high risk. Maybe defenders will figure him out, but maybe he'll also just get smarter (IQ) in that regard as he gains experience.

Personally, I think he'll trend more towards the top tier of the league when he hits his peak and prime. I dont think he'll just be a Gostisbehere or Tony Deangelo as someone once put it.

He is freakin smart, and to say hes adapted this quickly in the NHL after 30 games. Quite impressive.
