Lane Hutson Burgeoning Star Watch

So you would pass on a superior player cause his brother plays on the team??? That is some solid team building right there.
You make is sound as if the the difference between these 2 is enormous. I hate to break it to you but Luke Hughes isn't a Brent Gretzky level brother, he's a top pairing D capable of running the PP and killing penalties.

Why is Lane Hutson superior? Isn't he a fairly weak defender?
He's been dominant at 5v5 for a while, whaterver pair he's not on tend to get hammered while it's usually the habs doing the hammering when he's on the ice.

He's still phisically limited so he'll never be shea weber or a net front shit brick house but he's incredibly smart and already pretty good at puck retrieval and breaking plays

Last game I watched of the Habs was vs Toronto where he was -5 and MTL went from 3-0 3-7 . Not saying he is a shit defender but saying he is superior to L Hughes seems off. They are practically in the same tier to a outsider .
If you want to judge his defensive ability based on what was by far his worst game of the season, go for it. Whatever makes you sleep at night.

? Lane Hutson is terrible in his own end, what?
I don't think he is terrible but he has weaknesses. He has games where he gets dominated. He is still a rookie. He has lots of room to grow and there is no reason he can't.

At this current moment I dont see a reason to say he is superior to L Hughes. They are pretty even to me. Lane is better offensively while I think Hughes is better defensively.

I mean I've seen more than that one game but it was the last time I watched the Habs. There was also a game vs Boston where he was on ice for 5 goals against. He has a lot of room to grow and there is no reason he cant. But lets not act like he isn't a defensive liability at times.

You're naming 2 exceptions to his play this season lol. When not paired with Matheson or Savard he's been excellent defensively.

He's in the positive since december 1st. I mean you can cherrypick two games great for you. He is far from a defensive liability overall. At times yes he can be, just like guys like Makar and Hughes. Just look at last game vs the panthers. By far the best defenseman on ice for both teams.

He is playing great but I will be interested to see him in playoffs vs Capitals when things ramp up with Wilson etc trying to crush him.If he handles that well, then I will definitely be a believer.

im not worried. He has yet to be hit clean in the nhl. Too elusive. But yeah time will tell. Habs need to make the playoffs first.

Quinn Hughes got destroyed last year in the playoffs the same way. I remember watching Nashville just hammering and hammering him. I wonder why that isn't effective on a guy like Makar who isn't a huge man either. As the other poster mentioned Hutson is extremely elusive and aware of what is going on the ice at all times but in a best of 7 where you keep dumping it into his corner hes going to get hit
