I do not think it's hfboards related. HFboards is usually very much enthusiastic about talented youngster.HFboard
When we measure a rookie's performance, how else can we determine where he stands other than finding similar players to compare him to? That said, I admit some of the enthusiasm over Hutson comes across as, "My player is better than yours", which nobody appreciates. It would be great if we could discuss future potential and present performance without getting hypersensitive about either.I can see the style similarity in the offensive zone so I get the comparisons for sure. Exciting player and no reason to not be hyped if you are a Montreal fan. I would not jump to Makar or Hughes comparisons though, they arent needed at this point and its asking a lot of the kid a bit too early. Style wise with the headfakes theres definitely something there to the comparison, but probably best to enjoy his play and get hyped without it becoming about the comparison.
These threads get too bogged down by comparing young guys to established stars/superstars too much and it just sets off meaningless convos about the comparisons instead of appreciating a great young player doing exciting things.
Thanks for the stat correction. I counted one season twice because he played with two teams.Even if your numbers were correct, it wouldn't be negative for the first 5 years as year one wasn't negative, but your numbers are only picking up the first 4 years. 0 in year 1, -2 in year 2, -14 in year 3, -16 in year 3 (-1 with FLA and -15 with TBL) and +9 in year 5.
It’s not often dynamic offensive defensmen are also shut down defenseman. Like I said I still think he will be perfectly adequate at the very least defensively which is a win with his offensive prowess. I think he will be very good eventually in his own zone while being dominant in the offensive zone. You are going to see a lot of Hutson PPA on Caufield PPG for the next decade.I think almost every habs fan were willing to accept the trade off of subpar defense for good offense. He’s par defensively for his usage and exceeded the offensive production expectations so far.. if anything your typical all out crazy habs glazer is holding back a lot when talking about this player lol
Let's not go that far. He's not even close to Hughes in his own end.
But he's definitely projecting that way.
2022 could be a huge draft for the Montreal Canadiens
Lane Hutson
Juraj Slafkovsky
Owen Beck
Adam Engstrom
Might start pretending they drafted Slaf at 62 lol2022 could be a huge draft for the Montreal Canadiens

I just looked at the 2022 draft and I think you're right, as crazy as that sounds....I'm a Habs fan and wear Habs fan goggles, but it's hard for the other fan bases to argue this point. 62nd overall the best pick of the draft, you don't see that very often at all. I can only think of Kucherov (58th in 2011), and Bure (#113 in 1989) if he had not busted his knee, but both had Russian doubts associated with the pick.Who is better than Hutson on that draft?
Wait for DemidovIt’s not often dynamic offensive defensmen are also shut down defenseman. Come on now, there's a 7X Norris winner drafted in 1989.I just looked at the 2022 draft and I think you're right, as crazy as that sounds....I'm a Habs fan and wear Habs fan goggles, but it's hard for the other fan bases to argue this point. 62nd overall the best pick of the draft, you don't see that very often at all. Great point, missed that. Lidstrom #53 overall best pick of the draft.Come on now, there's a 7X Norris winner drafted in 1989.
Hutson has a game very similar to Karlsson......top notch offensively, and some work to do in the Dzone........similar.It’s not often dynamic offensive defensmen are also shut down defenseman. Demidov 1Might start pretending they drafted Slaf at 62 lol
Different post-draft years.I think he's pretty good. If the goal is to match or surpass Hughes' p/g numbers from his rookie year I think he's got it in him easily.
Demidov 1
Hutson 5
Slaf 5
Rein 62
You've got numerous posts saying he's already better than Hughes. Not everyone is measured. If you're going to have hyperbolic posts one way, you should expect it the other way as well. Trouble is having to wade through all those posts. When we measure a rookie's performance, how else can we determine where he stands other than finding similar players to compare him to? Watching the Habs vs Nucks last night I don't understand the Hughes (I wanted him instead of KK btw) and Hutson stylistic comparison. Hughes is just an unbelievable skater and amazing QB with great poise, I am a huge fan. Hutson seems to have a better offensive mind with the puck on his stick but is not in Hughes league at all when it comes to skating. They're both amazing players that control the game in different ways.
