there are some posters whose entire identities are based around cheering against teams they hate rather than cheering for teams and players they enjoy.
Seems like an absolutely miserable existence

Rich man's Gostisbehere who only does head fakes is pretty good. You guys should tell your teams how to contain them since they are so laughably pathetic and easy to read.
Fans of other teams are insecure and don't actually enjoy, understand or appreciate the sport

I can see the style similarity in the offensive zone so I get the comparisons for sure. Exciting player and no reason to not be hyped if you are a Montreal fan. I would not jump to Makar or Hughes comparisons though, they arent needed at this point and its asking a lot of the kid a bit too early. Style wise with the headfakes theres definitely something there to the comparison, but probably best to enjoy his play and get hyped without it becoming about the comparison.
These threads get too bogged down by comparing young guys to established stars/superstars too much and it just sets off meaningless convos about the comparisons instead of appreciating a great young player doing exciting things.

Wait what?.. No he wouldn't, he has a .75 pts/game pace right now. Quinn had a .78 pts/game pace in his rookie year. Lane just got the PP1 job 2 weeks ago, we really gonna split hairs on .03 pts/game at the half way point of the season?
He definitely doesn't need to go point per game, he just needs to do exactly what he's doing right now and he'll be right there with Hughes' rookie season.
Some people are gonna be slow to accept the fact that this kid is gonna be something special, and that's ok it happens with every player ever.

You are quite right it's very unlikely he makes the massive jump from .75 pts/gp to .8 pts/gp (equivalent of 2 extra points every 40 games) considering it's only been about 15 games since he's been put on PP1. Also he's averaged a point per game for half the season already

Interesting, the longest point streak by both Quinn Hughes and Makar in their rookie season was 5 games, Hutson already has a 7 game point streak this season. Unfortunately we've been told that it would be "unlikely" for Hutson to match Hughes' brilliant offence from his rookie season. that .75 to .78 gap is far too big, might as well be the grand canyon.

I calculated that before NHL.com updated with last nights totals. He needed 37 points in 43 games to tie Hughes (0.86 per game, which to me is nearly a point per game). His pts/game went up significantly from the 3 point game (as you'd expect). Looking through the game logs though, Hughes had exactly the same number of points at this point in the season in his rookie year (though in a couple fewer games, but not much of a difference). As I said the style comparison is definitely there and hes an exciting young player.
My point was that I just think its not necessary to focus on a comparison to a Norris trophy guy and put that kind of pressure on the kid or focus on these types of discussions instead of just enjoying how great hes playing and how exciting the next few years will be. Hughes didnt stay a 0.8 pt/game guy who was manhandled on defense regularly, he got better and better each year (to an astonishing degree). Heck he somehow improved from last year despite winning the Norris. Thats a lot to expect from any kid. Perhaps thats too much nuance for a thread thats clearly better placed in the Habs forum, but I also wouldnt point to a forward putting up 60 points in their rookie season and compare them to Nate Mackinnon, since that requires a lot more than just meeting the rookie pace.
Ill leave it at that though, I dont think saying the same point over and over has any value. Just enjoy what the kid is doing is all.

I think he's pretty good. If the goal is to match or surpass Hughes' p/g numbers from his rookie year I think he's got it in him easily.
He would be near ppg if Msl had him on pp1 since game 1 where he belonged. I know "the veteran" had 60 points last year but even Mattheson himself know Hutson is much better offensively than him lol.

I remember thinking 35 points would be an immense success, I had clearly underrated him and trying to keep expectations in check.

After last night he should be the front runner.
Its curious how most of those guys just disappeared from this thread.....but don't you worry. They will be back in force if he goes a few games without a point.

He’s very good and very young. He is definitely going to be a star in this league at the very least offensively. The way he plays and moves though makes he think he’s going to be unbelievable offensively and defensively be perfectly adequate if not also very good.

I think almost every habs fan were willing to accept the trade off of subpar defense for good offense. He’s par defensively for his usage and exceeded the offensive production expectations so far.. if anything your typical all out crazy habs glazer is holding back a lot when talking about this player lol
