Hutson could clearly do really well dominating the AHL and getting that feel for when to be aggressive and work on defensive positioning, another -3 night, but we’re all the crazy ones. No one is denying the kids talent, people are literally just saying he needs to hone it. I truly think he could be an elite top 4 d-man that anchors an elite PP one day but is he really progressing right now the same way he would in the AHL? I don’t think so. Montreal is a mess just like my own team, but d-men develop differently

Look at how Winnipeg has developed Dylan Samberg. A few years in the AHL and then slowly give him more minutes and a bigger role. He is now a top 4 D for the Jets and playing like one. Unfortunate about his broken foot tonight though.

This is why stat watching is not a good way to asses a player's performance.

Try watching the games instead, might provide you the obvious answer as to why the AHL makes no sense at all for this player.

I guess the rookie of the yr last season should have stayed in the AHL last season . He was a -44 for the season.

Chiming in again, he's much better than the criticisms in this thread, but the thread kind of asked for those responses.

he's good enough for the NHL but should realistically be in more of a sheltered role than what MSL is playing him in.

the problem is that around 50% of his teammates and 80% of the d-core can only handle sheltered minutes. sending hutson down to the ahl might be beneficial to him and his growth as a player. but montreal would just play another defenseman in his place, which is totally overmached in the nhl.

It blows my mind that most Habs fans thought the loss of Laine would hinder than challenging for the playoffs. Like, that organization is not remotely close.

His pinch led to the Utah tying goal last night. No goals, 11 points in 21 games and a -13. He really should be in the AHL
To be fair we had 13 shots all game , in 60 minutes , so yeah he's gonna pinch watching this shit show , the forwards are actually dog shit , Hutson made a stupid bad pinch but he's not totally lost defensively , our D core actually played a decent game last night , the forwards are the ones that should be in the AHL outside of 2 guys. The entires team play in their own end and in the oppositions end is peewee level ,reflecting the coach we have

Hutson reminds me of Marner with his vision on the ice and his size but that is where the comparisons end. I understand why Habs fans are excited by a player who is able to find plays out of no where with incredible vision and passing.

But he is a complete liability without the puck and as time goes on the headfakes become less and less impactful. I would say right now the way he is being developed is more in line with guys who become PPQB and play sheltered bottom 3 minutes on a contenders defense than any ridiculous comparisons to top 5 dmen in the league.

This is it. He’s clearly NHL caliber but he has less than 20 games of experience and is already playing 23-25 minutes a night on a team that can’t get it going.

He should be playing sheltered minutes but he isn’t because of Montreal lack of options at D. You can’t expect a D corp with 5/6 23 and under to perform

He is super talented but I do think there is a lot of empty calories with his puck possession. Kind of noticed it a bit in the first pre season. Do a whole bunch of cool things with the puck and in the end he just ends up trapped on the boards and then the puck is going the other way.
