Landeskog returns. Avs loan him to AHL for conditioning stint

Hes coming off 3 years not playing hockey

The expectation should be he gets scratched in the playoffs because hes not good enough to play playoff games.

Its extremely rare for a player to miss so much time and comeback close to what they were before.

Ben Bishop tried making a comeback for Dallas in 2022 after missing 1.5 years and he sucked due to his injury not letting him play.

Landeskog playing is great. But if hes not effective and is being played regardlesd by the Avs thats a big advantage for Western conference playoff teams
It’s obviously a great story if he does come back, but I do wonder how the fans/team will feel if he comes back and is only a shell of himself and keeps playing at a 3rd/4th line level? Hes paid a lot of money…

He could rebound to a top 6 player in a year or two, but realistically barring some next miracle Landeskog wont be giving the Avs 7M or 8M value (forget exactly what his AAV is) and if he doesnt bounce back to the point where after 20 to 30 regular season games he looks cooked then I could see the Avs seeing if he can LTIR still or potentially having to trade a good piece of their team

I am still hoping he becomes a top 6 player agin by 2026/2027 at the worse. Always liked GL and dont have anything against the Avs team.

Its just super unprobable he can bounce back to being an elite PWF type player right away after 3 years away from the sport

I think the expectation is a middle 6 guy who will bring more to the locker room than he will on the ice and then sign very reasonable team friendly deals for the rest of his career retiring an AV.

If he blows up and is 80%+ of his former self then its all gravy. If he cant do it anymore, then at least he tried and they at least get the morale boost this year.

It's a miracle he's playing again

He and Lonzo Ball will be the first players in their sport to recover from that kind of injury/surgery

It's a complete last resort surgery

I am a long time Detroit fan who will always hate Colorado, but it is good to see him back. Hope he stays healthy and they get swept in the first round.

The break/rust is a short term issue. Landeskog's played hockey for almost his entire life, hes a high IQ two way player. But whether there will be pain is a bigger concern. He probably LTIRetires if the pain returns after 20-30 games. If not, I think he can actually have a good rest of his career, since the rest of his body hasnt gone through 3 years of grind.

I don’t care if Landeskog plays just this one game or resumes his career. I’m fine with whichever. I just applaud the man and the effort he has put into giving himself a shot at the NHL again. That takes unbelievable courage, tenacity and fortitude. What also impresses me are fans of opposing teams cheering for Gabe to do well. Nice to see there are still true hockey fans.

Just a note for all those who want salary cap in the PO: with that Landeskog could not play this year and I think the whole NHL would be a worse experience without it
Pretty moot point. If there was cap in the playoffs and they expected and wanted him to be back, they would have left room for him.

I don't think anyone expected him back this year tbf and I don't think they would have gambled going into the season 7m worthy of players down for a hope of Landeskog in the PO
