Landeskog returns. Avs loan him to AHL for conditioning stint

Just a note for all those who want salary cap in the PO: with that Landeskog could not play this year and I think the whole NHL would be a worse experience without it
no, they could make a system in which a cap applies to the playoffs as a snapshot of the last day of the regular season and if you have an injured player like Landeskog who is expected to play for the playoffs but miss the season, you have to make it fit, either you replace the player for the season using LTIR like it is today but and the injured in ineligible to return for the playoffs, you dont put the player on LTIR and play without allowing the player to return when ready. That gets rid of cap shenanigans, teams shouldn't be able to benefit from injuries for the playoffs, and yes, this applies to Evander Kane as well.

Yea and with that system Landeskog would be on LTIR and they couldn't make him fit when he unexpectedly comes back at the end of the season

And an over the cap team with an advantage over others. Another * if you will.
it can't be argued he could step in this week and be at full speed, given everything he's gone through, there is literally a documentary going on about this not being healthy and hiding an injury, the entire world for years has some empathy, weird take, Oiler loser denial insecurity at its finest

This ain’t an Evander Kane stating he will be back situation, this is a player missing substantial time and working his way back. To even try and say anything around Landeskog resembles circumvention is asinine

thats literally what I'm saying, is that someone saying this is delaying his readiness is unqualified, think you got what I was trying to say wrong, the sport is better with him making it back in the playoffs

Delaying readiness or not. It’s still cap circumvention. I can’t see you what you are replying to because that poster has been in my ignore list for years now.

At the end of the day it’s still an unfair advantage to Colorado seeing how they will they be playing with the replacements they added to make up for his being out and him. This is why a cap is needed in the playoffs. It’s not colorado specific. Any team doing this should need to ice cap compliant rosters in the playoffs.

I think the rule probably should be changed, but until it is, I'm all for my team exploiting it. Not like we're the first.

For those who are saying this is cap circumvention, you can’t really compare it to the other ones we’ve seen, like Stone or Kucherov. Stone and Kucherov didn’t miss 3 years then came back in the playoffs. Completely different situation and injury.

Watching Landy’s documentary, his road to recovery and everything he’s doing to get back is all scientific, precise and timely. It’s not an injury where he got hurt to start the season or half way into the season then came back in the playoffs like Stone and Kucherov

The league has made it pretty clear that this supposed cap circumvention is fine. Nothing came from it in the past and nothing will happen now.

If Avs wanted to, they could really circumvent the cap and get Landy in the Avs line up before the playoffs. They could have easily placed guys like Manson, Drouin on LTIR because they actually missing some time and won’t be available until playoffs, and could have activated Landy, but didn’t do that. Landy needed as much time as possible before playing in a game

Kind of insane people think that Colorado is trying to circumvent even though they've had to completely rebuild their team under the impression he may never be back and he hasn't played in 3 years. Not like they have a guy joining the team who has been logging games.

I hope he's not but there's a very serious possibility he can't play at an NHL level whatsoever anymore.

When Kuch was out for the year, the main complaint was he could have come back for the last few games probably. With Landy playing tonight the same complaint still holds that he could play before the PO. All that said the original complaint was bs anyways cause why would you play your star in meaningless regular season games instead of giving him time and play him when it actually matters.

It’s the long con, LTIR a player in the 21-22 season to exploit cap in the 24-25 playoffs. Colorado has some big balls pulling off this stunt!!!

Some serious mental gymnastics to complain and call this cap circumvention. Evander Kane and Mark Stone show the issues with cap circumvention, Landeskog shows its intended use.

Kucherov only missed 82 games and didn’t really require conditioning when he came back in the playoffs. Landy missed like 246 games (not counting playoffs) He needs conditioning stint in AHL to come back and play an NHL game again. Also we’re talking about different types of injuries with Kucherov and Landeskog.

Completely different situations. Like I said, if Avs really wanted to, they could put couple of guys on LTIR like Manson and someone else who are injured and not coming back until the playoffs, and they could have activated Landy to play few games before the playoffs

Yup. As fans it's frustrating watching Kucherov and Stone be blatant LTIR circumvention, but I get why they don't close the loophole.

It's a better product on the ice overall, makes the TDL more interesting, and creates potential huge storylines like Landy coming back.

Something might happen in the future, but that's part of the CBA negotiations. Unlike the supposed "tax-advantage", this one is actually fairly easy to solve with just applying the salary cap for post season as well.
