Landeskog Practicing w/Team

It just seems a dis-service to the man. He's not an AHL player. He's never been an AHL player. Do not assign him to the AHL for games. Sure... you want him to not travel and keep practicing... loan, loan, loan all you want. Do NOT dress him for that franchise, unless you plan on playing him there for awhile.

Again for me, it's a combination of respect for the player on top of the fact that there is nothing to see at the AHL level that you do not also see at the NHL that leads me to the conclusion that it's just a bad a idea.

Something I'm going to die on a hill about? No. Something that would probably always smart a bit... yeah.
I get this, but at the same time he hasn’t played hockey in 3 years, so I’d be ok with him playing a couple with the Eagles for conditioning

So...

Eagles tickets for this Friday and Saturday have shot up in price big time.

Friday: https://tix.axs.com/65EMBgAAAAD8dyR5AAAAAAAE/v///wD/////BXRoZW1lAP///////////shop/search

Saturday: https://tix.axs.com/65EMBgAAAADbeiR5AAAAAABE/v///wD/////BXRoZW1lAP///////////shop/search

Usually, highest ticket rinkside would cost $158.

Right now... $279 on Friday and $374 on Saturday.

Cheapest usually $11.

Right now... $40 on Friday and $43 on Saturday.

Hmm...
Wow, $158 for an AHL game ? In Denver. Really ?

I feel like they made a mistake not putting Manson and Girard on LTIR.

I believe they're about $1.2M short of having enough with just Manson on LTIR.

G missed two games with a lower body injury. Then came back and played four. Now he's missed the last three, and there's only four games left. So not enough to get to the 10 game + 24 days requirement.

Last game of the year on April 13th is 13 games and 24 days after his first missed game on March 20th.

They should have been planning on finding LTIR space for him to come back during the regular season if he could, and that was their opportunity with the lower body injury to Girard.

His "return" will be when he plays his first game in the NHL, regardless of whether he played in the AHL or not. An AHL game would be like a practice. He practiced many times already, he may practice in an AHL game. I don't think that changes anything related to his return. The only question is whether or not its too dangerous. But then again if they're too scared to let him play a game or two in the AHL, then something's not right... It would mean that it wouldn't have worked anyway. It would suck bad that he wouldn't get to play a last game in the NHL, but it wouldn't change the real outcome.

I don't see an AHL game like practice IMO. It's still a competitive game against pros, and it would be hyped up like crazy, with Gabe overwhelmed with emotions, but not many would be able to watch it.

One more reason to give him AHL games. Its about winning, not about marketing. Get a portion of the emotion, stress, fear and uncertainty out of the way, then stage an official NHL playoff comeback.
Win-win

Unless he gets injured in the AHL...:eek3:

I'm surprised there are such divided opinions on Landeskog going on an LTIR conditioning stint with the Eagles.

To me, it's a no-brainer... yes, he should.

He hasn't played a second of hockey in over 1,000 days. Stepping into the intensity of the NHL playoffs after such a long layoff is a bad idea. Sure, the level of talent in the AHL is vastly different, but it's hockey. Getting shifts under him, evaluating how the knee feels after the game(s), all that stuff; it's important.

For those concerned he can't take a hit or some contact at the AHL level, I'm not sure what you're expecting if he just jumped in cold for NHL playoff hockey. Are guys like Benn and Marchment going to take it easy on him? I'd rather he has absorbed some contact before that and is able to withstand it. If you're thinking he's going to get hurt in the AHL or that he realizes he isn't ready after a game or three there, that was likely to happen at the NHL level as well. Imagine how demoralizing it would be for his teammates to watch him get re-injured, live, in his first game back on the ice with them. Crushing.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with him playing the remaining 3 games of the Eagles regular season schedule and then getting to rest for a week before the NHL playoffs start. In fact, that's ideal. It gives everybody some certainty; Landeskog, the coaching staff, everybody involved.

Plenty of talentless fvcks on the sTars to worry about, might as well get in some ice time with the Eagles.

I get what you're saying, but for me, the difference is that if he took a bad hit in the NHL, or his knee didn't hold up afterward, he at least got that return to the NHL moment he's been dying to have for three years.

If he was healthy enough to play, but something prevented that moment, it would be such a shame.

Playoff intensity and hits will be a lot to deal with. But the Avs could have given themselves a third option with a few meaningless regular season games, by putting Manson and Girard on LTIR earlier.

I understand both sides to this argument. The emotional side says no way, when he comes back it's gotta be with the Avs. I agree that they should have tried to give themselves cap space to get him into regular season games, but I mean maybe there were reasons for LTIR'ing certain guys.

I also think that it would be good for him to get AHL reps. But man, if something bad happens while with the Eagles it would be so disappointing. Like when Forsberg came back and never got to play a home game.

He needs to be as ready as possible with couple games under his belt.

If he doesnt get then we will just to wait, but man if the knee doesnt hold up after the game1 in Poffs then Avs mental playoff sheepness will kick in and they can start ordering golf rounds...

Let him get his conditioning stint in the AHL. The goal for him is to perform well at an NHL level, not just to participate. If the concern is that he's a delicate flower who can't handle the AHL without getting hurt, then what the f*** do you expect him to do in the NHL during the Playoffs?

I'm also a bit baffled by this. Unless people literally think Landy is a Norse god, but if he were superhuman he wouldn't have missed three seasons. It's called a conditioning stint for a reason and I'm not sure there's ever been another player in the history of the league whose needed one like Landy does. As a regular human who happens to be an elite athlete trying to return to playing hockey at the highest level after three seasons away, a conditioning stint in the AHL would be part of a ramping up process. If he's not ready for that he's simply not ready at all. I don't think after three seasons away from the game they can be skipping steps with him.

As some bright folk have been saying, it’s really up to Gabe. Anyone who’s watched the doc series knows how hard he’s worked physically and emotionally and frustratingly fought through setbacks, and he gets to decide what is the best approach to playing in a game.

And as others have also said, he’ll get advice and wisdom about how to do it, just as he has for over 2 years. No one should give a shit about anything other than what he decides to do — he’s more than earned that.

The guy who literally has a documentary crew following his every move up until his big return is going to return in the AHL? I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm not okay with that, there's a much bigger chance of a cheap shot happening in the AHL. Give him a limited role on the 4th line or something on the big club and let him ease himself in.
