New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

What is wrong with this f***ing team, why do we have to always to do backward ass stupid shit, Shanahan just ended a 8 year run with a team that was supposed to contend for a cup every year and has 2 playoff series wins to show for it, how the f*** does that scream "oh shit sign him before someone else does" sick of the close minded hockey community where only a handful of guys get passed around from team to team, isn't there someone young intelligent and hungry we can take a chance on at GM? Much rather that than this old school hockey recycled GM mentality that you know is going to end in failure, I am guessing to take a chance on a young intelligent and hungry GM, we would need the equivalent of that as the person who makes the decisions which you know we don't have

He’s being interviewed for POHO, not GM.

I don't think Shanahan would come in as GM, he'd be team president. And maybe the Leafs didn't go far in the playoffs but it's not like they didn't have success during Shanny's ten year run. I remember thinking the same thing you said when the Yankees hired Joe Torre in '96 and that was a guy that was making day to day in game decisions! I'll take Shanahan and his experience. Let's go Isles!!

Goddamn I hope for you guys you don't get Shanahan. Might be the worst President in history. Never ever adjusted throughout the years. Always kept the core together even when they were failing year after year. You're gonna keep Horvat and Barzal for a long time. lol

Funny to see less and less people defending that buffoon Arthur Staple.
Staple lost me for good when he wrote yesterday that MLSE could extend Shanahan thereby blocking him from the Isles, AFTER MLSE granted permission for the Isles to interview Shanahan. That told me he's trolling, on crack, or a dope. Or all three.

I've not seen that comment from Staple. Can you post a link?

I don’t understand the hate for the guys writing about it. They are ALL speculating because there’s not much solid accurate information out there.

Shanahan is the most recent executive available, of course he’ll he linked here.

This isn’t anything different than speculation on other types of stuff and the way media works now, as has been discussed - is click based. In every genre. Obviously this makes things frustrating and seem really really dumb.

But that’s the way it goes.

Flip side is that at least there’s buzz around the team and they’re being covered both locally and nationally (and internationally I suppose).

Holland was NHL this am. It’s pretty clear that if he was getting back into a top gig, he wanted to be in the west. His family is in Calgary. So, he explored the Isles gig, but seems like once LAK opened it, that was preferred.

I'm tired of speculating. Can something just happen already? It's been a freakin' month.

Would rather wait for a good decision....Then rush a bad one.

I actually appreciate the Isles taking their time and doing a very detailed due diligence. Kinda scary that it seems they would've just given Holland the job, but either way taking extra time now to make a smart hire is warranted. A few extra days now to figure it all out given that the new President and/or GM will probably be with the organization at least 5 years is the right thing to do.
