As it turns out, instead of talking about "journalism" we should've been putting money on Journalism.

Wonder how much Marner gets now. Rantanen has the same amount of points as him over the last 5 years, but with probably like 50 more goals. He has a cup and is beasting in this playoffs while Marner is doing his usual "lead the leafs in points but everyone hates him for it" thing.if that somehow means Marner is an Islander come July 2 I am all for it. lol
I just imagine a Eiserman-Hagens-Marner first line but hell Marner probably would work well with Horvat as well(I go under the assumption if we can get Marner we probably would have to trade Barzal to clear up capspace, especially if we resign Dobson)
I think PHI is taking a C no matter what. Someone is going to take Brady Martin way too high, and PHI is the kind of team that would do it. I could see Hagens really falling in this draft if Nashville doesn't take him.I could definitely see the top 5 as some combination of Schaefer/Desnoyers/Frondell/Misa/Martone.
I wonder if PHI would be interested in Dobson for 6th overall? They only have Drysdale as a young NHL RD and Bonk as a prospect. Ristolainen is 30...
Of course they could take Mrkta or trade down and try to do the same thing allowing Hagens to fall to Boston at #7. Hell, Boston might think Brady Martin is a better fit than Hagens for their brand of hockey and then all of the sudden Hagens joins Berniers/Wright/Catton/McCann/Tolvanen/Kakko/Kartye in Seattle.
Martin is a helluva prospect, I would’ve had no problem drafting him when the Isles were at #10. He really showed out at the U18’s. And was good all year long.I think PHI is taking a C no matter what. Someone is going to take Brady Martin way too high, and PHI is the kind of team that would do it. Ultimately, I bet Marner ends up getting more than Rantanen because he's headed to open market. It's probably gonna look like a real dumb comparison though

POHO: Shanahan
GM: Brandon Pridham
AGM: Patrick Burke
Something: Matt Martin

So the guy who hired Lou is the guy we want replacing Lou...?
And let's not foget he also hired Dubas.
In fact maybe just nothing from the Maple Leafs. Honestly...What's good about that organization that you'd want on the Isles? No team has less resules from top draft picks than they do. They cannot identify the element of character when constructing a team.
Don't know anything about him, but seems like some decent buzz. If there's a good support system around him I'd be ok with a role, but not sure I'd want him to be the sole assistant GM. Maybe if there were multiple AGMs.
10000% yes. Don't let him leave.
You don't want guys because they're coming from Toronto. So the guy who hired Lou is the guy we want replacing Lou...?

I mean, the guy with zero front office experience that hired a legendary GM to rebuild a franchise (I would say used), then when the table was set, move him out for boy not so wonder, whom misspent cap and picks and never moved the needle from where Lou left it, only for that squirrel to fool another team, the hire another GM that keeps the same coach, to finally start fixing the team/coach like 6 years later…I’m not sure I see the allure with Shanahan.
I’d be certainly ok if that theory came throughWell, this should be the week. Can't wait another 2 to see if something shakes off from Dallas.
Let's see who they pick. I still have my London Knights/Mark Hunter theory, but who knows anything. Fun fact though - a few players to come through the knights system: Brendan Shanahan, Bo Horvat... and Mitch Marner.
The one thing that throws a wrench in the POHO Shanahan/GM Hunter theory is that that could have easily happened before, but Shanahan went with Dubas. There was some speculation that Hunter wanted to go back to London but who knows. Still, I can see it now...I’d be certainly ok if that theory came through
It's the name and the resumé. He spent 10 years as President of the biggest and most scrutinized team in hockey.I’m not sure I see the allure with Shanahan.
I think they'd love to hire a big name like Shanahan as POHO .I wonder if Shanahan is a real possibility. Malkin would likely need to bring his wallet, I'd assume.

The team was a lottery team when he took it over, and then they made the playoffs for 8 years straight. Sure, they haven't gotten past the second round, but Isles ownership will definitely love that consistency. Of note, 7 of their 9 playoff losses were in game winner take all games, 5 of which coming against the Bruins or Panthers, and they haven't won one in that time. through a few different coaches, I personally read that as your best player (Matthews) not being able to clutch up but I'm sure there are other interpretations.
can't really see a way to spin him as a bad choice, and I certainly don't see any better ones available to us right now. I believe the leafs have the biggest front office in the league as well, and I don't think that was the case before Shanahan got there. I I think that getting Trotz off of a cup win maybe gave us some unrealistic expectations about who is out there when you need someone - generally teams retain the staff that brings them cups lolol. But compared to the other options available for POHO, which seem to be Bergevin and Kekalainen (who also both won nothing), Shanahan seems like a slam dunk.
I’m not sure I see the allure with Shanahan.
I can't speak for others but the idea behind Shanahan is that it would help us sign Marner. Beyond that yeah I rather look elsewhere. lol
I think Martin's friendship with Marner would do more to get him interested than anything else (interested, not signed necessarily).
After what Marner just went through, I could see Martin calling him up and saying "Hey bud, why don't you take a trip out to Long Island" and then show him the beautiful beaches, great golf courses and a trip to Manhattan then tell him it's a great place to live, great team to play for and no pressure like in Toronto, now go pack your bags.I think Martin's friendship with Marner would do more to get him interested than anything else (interested, not signed necessarily).
