New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

I just died a bit inside.

Leave it to the f***ing Islanders. When they make history it's almost always of the embarrassing kind...

  • Fake owner buys team
  • 15 year contracts
  • Car with front row seat at arena.
  • Gm gets fired...Only to be kept on to help guide team into the future.

WTF??? Snow was living out of his closet 24 hours after being fired. Why isn't Lou totally removed from the premises and his parking space revoked 2 weeks later. A f***ing joke.

Why not Lou hanging around! When the current owners bought the team from Charles Wang it took him 2 years to fully cede control of the team to Malkin and Ledecky. So this would be par for the course for the Islanders.

Not that I was a fan of hiring Holland, but what if they owners were like; hey, it’s your job. However, there’s one minor caveat - the old man over there will actually have the final say.

Thanks for the interview Holland... Glad your not coming in, don't let the door smack your ass on the way out of any more interviews...

Lou at the practice facility today. Don’t think he was cleaning out his office. This is insane lol

Pretty sure that’s not Lou. I don’t think he walks like that lol. Video is grainy. Probably somebody that looked like Lou. Seemed like someone who isn’t 82 yrs old

Jesus...

We've gone full Zapruder film over here. This is what Lou/Malkin has done to us.

I too thought that looked like Lou...But didn't walk like him. That said it very much like John Collins next to him.

Malkin needs to grow a steel spine in that jellyfish body and buy Lou a one way ticket to Yemen. Enough already. He should be off the premises today, now, immediately...And never come back.

I'm trying not to get too stressed by the daily news/speculation - mostly hoping that in the end they make a good decision. I would think if they have a senior advisor, the role would involve building the front office and scouting Infrastructure. I'm not sure what lone wolf Lou would have to contribute to that.

Rosner saying Lou didn’t have anything to do with GM search. Now it’s being said that Lou is possibly going to stick around in an advisory role and foes in fact have the ears of the owners.

Well it could be that he didn't have anything to do with the search, but with Malkin/Collins f***ing it up pretty badly, they're (considering) inviting Lou back in.

If you piece it all together since Malkin took over I think it went something like this...

  1. 2018 - Malkin buys Islanders.
  2. His standard/capability is much higher than Wang's, so he wants to get rid of Snow, but...Is a "rookie" so doesn't know who to hire.
  3. With Shanahan/Dubas in Toronto, Lou on his way out.
  4. Bettman/NHL put Lou/Malkin together.and off they go.
  5. Malkin settles into ownership and starts to get familiar with the NHL landscape, but has a lot on his plate, so in 2023 hires/sells partial ownership to John Collins and let's him run the business side of the Isles.
  6. Over the past year(s), Collins doesn't agree with Lou's direction/they get into a power struggle, and (part-owner) Collins wins out and Lou's contract is not renewed.
  7. Collins, with Malkin's support, starts a search for a President/GM.
  8. For whatever reason they keep Lou around. And if he's around, he's sharing his opinion.
  9. And perhaps because Lou is incredibly close with Ken Holland...They solely with laser-focus on Holland, but he's hesitant and keeps the Isles at arm's length.
  10. Finally 1-2 weeks go by and Malkin/Collins have to consider other names (you'll notice that as of 24 hours ago they still hadn't reached out to Bergevin, Jarmo, Darche, etc).
  11. Seems like the reason Bergevin's name was out there was because he/his agent were sharing their interest, but Isles don't seem to have interest in him.
  12. Jarmo perhaps even less.
  13. That's why now with Holland seemingly uninterested, you're hearing names like Darche, and "Lou might stay on to mentor another young/less experienced candidate.

Where it goes from here is just scary. Lou needs to be cut out and sent to Siberia immediately. If Malkin/Collins cannot both identify, and hire, and compent President/GM then they are not capable owners.

Literally what we don't want Lou having any say in.

So Basically, Josh Bailey congratulations on becoming the general Manager of the New York Islanders!

Why are we so Anti-Lou? I ask that honestly.

I get he burned the cigarette to the filter with this group of guys and mortgaged the future to do so. But even these past few years when the talent hasn't been there, the on-ice product was respectable. That has value.

We need to expand the organization to manage the cap better and perhaps bring in more analytics people to do that properly, that was his greatest weakness as GM. I just don't see why Lou needs to get run out the door, he does not have the gravitas he had while running the Devils, he's an 83 year old man, give him a limited role if he wants it and if the owners respect him.

I'm not against a clean break either, I just don't believe it matters much either way.

The fact that you don't realize that Lou cannot do what you say needs to be done is why you don't think Lou staying or going doesn't matter.

Lou probably met with owners / collins saying he can offer the new gm the insight towards inroads made towards resigning dobson , holmstrom , sippycup and the potential trade offers made by other gm's for other players at deadline that were put on ice .

hey , I want him gone too , but if the new gm is Darche he might like the insight Lou can offer during a short transition period where Lou can advise until June 30 . By then Darche might have all the intel he needs to move forward .
