Seriously, if they consider Bergevin they might just as well have stuck with Lou.
Are you kidding...? Holland is more Lou's clone than Bergevin. Bergevin is Milbury 2.0.

I don’t think it’s fair to say no one wants Holland. He’s been out of a job for 1 year, and went to game 7 of the cup finals that year. Trotz took a year after leaving here right?I hope that's the Isles saying "No" to Holland (and not the other way around). I'd take Bergevin over him in a second...And I don't want Bergevin.
There should be a rule...You cannot hire anyone who isn't currently employed by an NHL team. I think that says something that at least Marc Bergevin get a advisory role with the Kings. Ken Holland & Jarmo can't even get that...Because nobody wants them - And thus we shouldn't either.
Conversely, I'd take Darche because he's widely regarded throughout the league and just haven't gotten his chance yet (plus he's much younger).
There's probably a handful of other good candidates out there in other NHL front offices and all of them should be fleshed out. None of these guys can be GMs forever so stands to reason that the next group of excellent GMs are out there in NHL front offices somewhere, and it's John Collins' job to find one - Not reboot a GM who's career is over.
Yeah but do you really wanna answer every question in French?Gorton runs the most storied franchise in history. He's not giving that up that to go to the Islanders.
look at his drafts, signings and trades...I have not seen a genuine reason for Holland being bad other than being old. Let's take away everything he did with Detroit. He still turned Edmonton from a fringe playoff team to a game away from winning a Stanley Cup. Kept first round picks for the most part, had some solid free agent pickups. Not his fault as soon as he left they let go of two solid first round picks.
Lafontaine should go back to the Companions in Courage office first and sign the items we sent to him with a donation before they hire him and take up his time.Patty Lafontaine as team Pres
Darche as GM
Oui.Yeah but do you really wanna answer every question in French?

He doesn’t. Hughes answers in French.Yeah but do you really wanna answer every question in French?
Which is why he’ll never get the full promotion, which is why it may have made sense for him to leave. MTL not gonna let it happen thoughHe doesn’t. Hughes answers in French.
This has the potential to blow up in their face if what Botta is saying is true…
Meh...
Much like with Wang here, this team was 1000% DOA with Lou in charge. I'll take my chances with and up and coming executive you've never heard of before.
That said this is why I wanted Lou fired years ago. He GMed took over the front office, hired zero help, and GM'ed this team into a mess of a roster where it's going to take the next President/GM years to get things right. Things wouldn't be this bad if Lou was fired 2-3 years ago.
Anyway whomever is hired is going to fill out a proper front office so they'll be more of a committee to discuss moves as opposed to an inept dictator doing whatever he wants. Not all hires will be perfect and more firings/hirings will need to be made, but things will be better as time goes on.
This is a marathon - Not a sprint. Present we're trying to build the "UBS arena" of rosters. Sucked to have to wait years for it, but got more exciting the more it was built. Same thing here.
Malkin has proved himself to be a very good and competent owner since he took control of the team. He/Collins may not get this initial hire right, but would've been easier for him to keep Lou. He didn't. Took guts and ambition to make things better. And he's proven that he will spare no expense to make this team better on/off the ice, so at minimum that is going to attract some quality talent.
May not be perfect, but there was zero hope before. Now there is some. How much there is will be determined in the coming days...
“Don’t beg. You’re the New York Frickin Islanders”This has the potential to blow up in their face if what Botta is saying is true…
I linked an article a few days ago from when Gorton was hired in MTL that said that Gorton's position was more overseer/advisory and the GM had final say on personnel decisions, FWIW. If that's true, a joint POHO/GM role could interest him. But yeah, the contract. It would take some kind of extraordinary pressure to break him free.I'm assuming the EVP of Hockey Operations with Montreal is the same job as President of Hockey operations, perhaps just a lower paid version (EVP vs. President)?
The variation is that the Islanders vacancy could also offer the GM role? Am I missing something?eah
He likes to fan the flames and get the cheap seats all jacked up.Could be that the size of the job that needs to be done with the Isles (building a modern front office/scouting program) will keep Holland from accepting at his age - he might look for an easier gig.
Botta is giving off the vibe that he's just making stuff up because he enjoys the attention.
Jeff Gorton has the final say on personnel decisions with the Canadiens. But he apparently has great faith and trust in Hughes and usually won’t interfere. But if he wants to, he can.I linked an article a few days ago from when Gorton was hired in MTL that said that Gorton's position was more overseer/advisory and the GM had final say on personnel decisions, FWIW. There are thousands of executives that would kill to run an NHL hockey team. You really think that if an offer was presented to any of them they would say no it's the Islanders? I'll pass? Don't think so.“Don’t beg. You’re the New York Frickin Islanders”
HAHAHAAHAHAAAA
Wake up Botta!!! This isn’t 1983. We may not be the joke of a franchise we were when John Spano and the next 2 ownership groups had the team but this is still not a prime landing spot for hockey executives.
