New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

IMO 2 headed monster is the way to go. No one gives a f*** about Collins and the Browns still suck. Get a guy with cache to mentor a qualified first time GM. Best of both worlds.

Collins either wants to be in the President role or not. I suggested a long time ago that he would be sliding over to team President post-Lou.

His minority ownership role is limiting, huge upside, but for him to do his work, he’s going to want to be involved in larger operational elements.

Malkin hires people to run his businesses. Collins is next up to run it. That’s why he bought in as owner.

Agreed, and would also like to add that Brian Boyle is a scumbag (but not really, you know what I mean).
Boyle may be a scumbag but it highlights that the Isles went backwards in the perception some industry insiders have of the organization. Again.

All you have to do is listen to the last 20 seconds. Nothing but praise for Malkin and the people within the actual industry know things have changed here. Just cannot f*** up the hire is all.

Non hockey markets who have developed players through drafts and trades. All for it
Those non hockey markets also have an advantage signing players as there is no state tax... they both basically get an extra 10% cap space compared to us.

Not taking anything away from the people individually, just important to remember that players make less money here than basically anywhere else.

Relieved. I had less interest this season I think than any season since the last pre-Tavares year. Weird season, and I've watched them all since 1973-74.

I'm glad this is over, but appreciate the return to respectability Lou's first 3 years. People forget how lost we all were those late teens years. He got Barry here and the team had an identity. I think Barry walked away ("fired") as he knew he took this low talent bunch as far is they would get and it was too stressful

But Lou kept going to the same dry well the last 4 years. Congratulations on your retirement. Like Willie Mays hung around 2 years too long.

As the entire org is getting a review suspect his son is gone too, after a historically bad season in Bridgeport.

Happy Friedman notes a lot of interest in the job. Hope they get this right. There's still something to build on here. Next year probably a re set of sorts.

I’ll go with this: Collins as President and he pursues George McPhee for the GM role. Both agree on an AGM similar to how McPhee operated with McCrimmon.

Yet players sign in LA, Seattle, etc.

Players get taxed on where they play. So, the two Florida teams get a bump. Otherwise, going to low tax states is not the 100% benefit, closer to 50%.

Aged out players used to play in FL mainly bc the ownership were train wrecks. Also, Canada’s Covid policy didn’t exactly endear itself to people wanting to play there.

The Isles are at disadvantage because they are Burbanite team in the shadow of one of the league’s prominent franchises.

People don’t go ‘I wanna play for the clippers, but they sure as heck say they’ll want to play for the purple and yellow team.’

I know we haven’t been too deep with prospects but maybe after this next draft we’ll have enough guys to bring back prospect/development camp. Lou axed the development camps

I always thought those were valuable to get guys in here to get to know the area of the organization the fans get to wear the crest. It’s also a good way to get a Headstart on potential college free agents as you can invite guys to the camps as well.

get them and their scouting staff. It’s impressive what they have been able to do with their picks.
Jim Nill. One of my favorites. He’s an incredible hockey mind and his philosophy on the game and building a franchise is great. He recently did an episode of spittin chicklets. I highly recommend
