F - Christian Dvorak
F - Christian Fischer
F - Jordan Greenway
F - Ryan Hitchcock
F - Nick Schmaltz
F - Alex Tuch* (injury)
F - Dominic Turgeon
D - Brandon Fortunato
D - Caleb Jones
D - Johnathan MacLeod

I wouldn't have a huge problem with any of these. I'd certainly like to see more of Tuch with the "full" team but no idea what the story is with the injury. Edit: Saw the update

[*]Schmaltz going home is my "insert outrage" pick. He was invisible in last year's tournament. And he's basically been invisible this camp so far as well. He's got a ton of skill, but he only sporadically applies himself and that's not usually a good combination for success in the short, intense tournament that is the WJC. I'll still be surprised if they actually send him home but I'm thinking he may be this year's Adam Erne.

It wouldn't bother me at all if Schmaltz were cut. He's got great talent but just no fire in his game. I'd like to imagine he'd get the message if he's cut but I just don't think it'll ever be part of the way he plays. He may end up making the team regardless in December if he piles up points this fall the way I think he could.

[*]With three centers (Matthews, Larkin, White) basically already locks for the team, I think one of Dvorak or MacInnis could be going home. Neither have impressed this camp, and that's especially a shame for Dvorak after the year he had, but I think they'll opt to keep MacInnis (given the mutual history) if it indeed comes to that. I hope Dvorak sticks around though so we can see more of him.

I was hoping to see more of Dvorak but he hasn't done much to warrant it. He played a lot on left wing today but I don't see him fitting in any better there than at center. He's got some smarts but he seems to be a complimentary offensive option from what I've seen and I'd prefer they take offensive types who can dictate the game a bit more.

Also, White may very well be a lock but he's been pretty mediocre thus far. If the games that counted started next week a case could be made to give Eansor the third line spot over him.

[*]Defense is a toss up. Fortunato has some nice skills but he's tiny and he's not a dynamo skater to make up for that. Caleb Jones improved a lot last year but his chance should really come next year. I like MacLeod but I'm not sure what role he would serve here. He's not a great skater and he's not going to beat out Carlo/Collins for the shutdown, shot blocker roles either. I'm not a fan of Collins at all but he's in USAH's good graces.

I still think things are really up in the air with the defense and the only players who I think are good bets to be there as of now are Werenski, Belpedio, Carlo and Hanifin. That said, Hanifin has played quite poorly by his standards here and I hope that if he does happen to end up playing in December he'll bring his A game.

After last year I really don't believe they need Collins if they're taking Carlo. Of course that doesn't mean they won't take him anyway. I think Macleod may be injured as he didn't play today, though I don't see a role for him come December. Jones trys to do too much and doesn't really achieve anything positive doing so. I think the decisions should come between Walman/Fortunato and Dougherty/Jacobs/McAvoy. Krys has shown me enough that I'd be happy to see him get the seventh spot.

Hanifin-Werenski (I'd like to see this this week. Get Hanifin going)
Belpedio-Carlo
Walman/Fortunato-Dougherty/Jacobs/McAvoy
Krys (Or Chychrun :sarcasm: )

[*]USAH has seemed to avoid sending home goalies in recent years, and I haven't seen any indication that's going to change this year, but it's clear Kris Oldham is unfortunately in over his head here. He's here to replace the injured Nedeljkovic anyway and the goalie spots were never much in doubt. I think the team would be better served by going down to three and letting those three (especially Halverson/Sarthou) get more work.

If they want to keep Opilka around as a back up in case of injury that's fine but Oldham needs to go home and get ready for his USHL season. I'd like to see Halverson get two starts, including Sweden, and Sarthou the other.

I know it's a sort of an exhibition game, but the referees or the stats guys missed quite a load of assists. Nättinen's first goal came on a rebound and had been previously touched by at least two Finnish players. Lämsä assisted Kiviranta's goal. Aho intercepted the pass at the blue line which lead to Nättinen's second goal, some right-handed defenceman assisted Aho's second goal and at least two Finnish guys touched the puck before Siikonen put it in the net for the tenth goal.

Just shows the margin of error that goes into these stats by which too many of us evaluate these prospects that we rarely get to see in action.

Won't be a problem for very long, soon he'll be coaching our olympic team instead :help:

Might actually work out better for him. Pros just need a kick in the butt to perform, and that's basically what he's good at. Unless he gets to coach European players only, then we're screwed.

Saarijärvi didn't return to the ice after that deliberate slash to the hands by Ryan MacInnis in the 3rd period. Hopefully nothing serious, that was a totally unnecessary and uncalled-for play by MacInnis.

Full USA roster on USA website ... I'm not smart enough to post it or leave a link.

Forward's sent home

Fisher
Garland
Greenway
Macinnis

D sent home

Dougherty
Jacobs
MacCloud ( injured )

No real surprises or issues with the cuts from me other than maybe Garland. I imagine they're worried about his skating holding him back from having an impact on the international ice, but I still would have liked to see him get some more looks. He earned more time here at the camp than a guy like Schmaltz did.

Sort of surprised that Dvorak stayed around over MacInnis if only because Dvorak has no real history with USAH, but if one of the two were to possibly have an impact on the team I think it would be Dvorak, so I'm glad to see him survive.

It was a year too early for both Fischer and Greenway. No surprise they're going home.

Fortunato/Jones would have been just as deserving to go home as Dougherty/Jacobs. You could have put those four names in a hat and picked two at random and I would have been fine with whatever combination they came up with to send home.

Oh...and Oldham should be going home too. No sense in a goalie that never had a chance to make the team taking away valuable time from Halverson/Sarthou, even if it's just in practice.

does Sweden have 2 teams? I didn't see Nylander. I can't fathom a reason why he wouldn't be selected

Neither was Kapanen so might be that Leafs don't want to risk them getting injured before training camp.

Yep. Nylander skipped this camp last year as well. Guys with a legit shot at making their NHL-teams are usually not there.

Lol at this guy on tsn who says Jake "Virtnin" could come in and fill a 2C role for the Canucks...
