He's actually an excellent centre but many people are too focused on point tallies. He was also an absolute monster in the covid playoffs for Columbus.

He was as good if not better the previous year when Columbus swept Tampa Bay in 4 games in the 1st round.

Dubois was a serious problem for two post-seasons in a row for Columbus. He was dominating physically and was unbeatable on the boards.

That player was worth 8.5M easy.
He just passed the 400 GP threshold, that's when things start to get real good for this type of player. He's got another gear point production wise.

Bowness moved Scheifele to Dubois wing, he played C basically all of last year. He needs to work on his defense a lot(just like Scheifele) but he's definitely a 1C in offensive playdriving ability. Having good defensive wingers will help.
The whole point of having a top center is him setup scoring winger.
If you have to pair him with defensive wingers to make up his liability, you don't have a top line anymore.

What's with Jets fans and feeling the need to bump this thread every couple of days to bash PLD.

Like, go be excited about Alex Iafallo or something.

Imagine if the Habs traded for PLD? I think you might be on the Jets side of things then and PLD would be the worse top 2C in the history of the NHL

To be serious, It's an interesting trade no doubt. Glad the Habs didn't pay that price but it might work out for the Kings and Jets in the end.

Like it or not, this is not going away. It will be talked about and reviewed year/year for a while yet.

You don't need pure defensive wingers, just ones that play defense better than Connor, Wheeler etc. Shouldn't be that hard.

Yeah it's getting really tiresome arguing in this thread with Kings fans freaking out about PLD

7 years in and he is still a winger trying to play center. Not very well either. Under 50% in face offs doesn't kill penalties and can't be trusted on the ice in last minutes if holding a lead. Sorry not for 8.5 million. Ppg is far from a lock also.

Even if this were fully true, the Kings of all teams are NOT short on finding two-way/defensive guys to lock it down. The last thing they needed is just another two way C. Adding Fiala last year was an elixir; adding PLD to just run amok? I mean, I've been banging on him as hard as anyone with what we gave up, but it's hard to really 'worry' about his role. If he comes in and is a two way force, great. If he's JUST an offensive catalyst, great.

I mean f*** the Kings have just been 3D printing 5'11-6'1" 200 lb players on offense and d for the whole league for a decade

Lewis is a 20pt bottom-six winger at this point of his career, and has no business being put with two players like PLD & Fiala at this point in his career.

So yeah, considering Todd’s track record, you’re probably onto something there.

TDIL Trevor Lewis is still in the NHL. Thought he retired already. Good for him. :thumbu:

Agree but the Kings had the assets to make the move but all of that being said what you see with PLD is what you get a 60ish point big center that many will not want in fantasy pools but could be a key piece in a SC run as he makes an excellent #2 center with Kopitar #1 and Danault at 3rd maybe the best #3 center in the league.
