Looking back at that PLD-Laine trade, I don't think the Jets got full value in this PLD trade. Honestly, I wouldn't trade Laine in his prime for Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari and a 2nd.
Laine was and should still be a jet.
Laine has missed 63 games since he got traded. I rather have players who can stay in the lineup and contribute than having a player who's injured half a season.

Is this a Leafs fan chiming in about what it takes to win in the playoffs? LMAO, like a Leafs fan Knows what that looks like. You better hope you get this return for Matthews Instead of a 15m/year boat anchor.
What does any of this have to do with which team I'm a fan of?

I want to argue but I agree, injuries aside. This team let him get bullied out of here. He probably would have signed here long term as well.

You just explained it yourself. They also had to clear out Durzi and Walker to make this possible. The top 6 better but the bottom of the lineup is taking a hit and will depend on young, cheap players to replace what's missing. What made the Kings such a good team the last 2 years was their depth and work ethic. Now the depth has taken a hit and PLD is not known for his work ethic on the ice.
Again..kings have depth at RD as well ...Clarke and Spence need to play and have more coming..both making under $1M...savings of $2.5M...so Durzi and Walker not needed...the work ethnic is not changing. Durzi was a river boat gambler, playing out of position (playing left because we too many RD and not enough LD). But good try, some how you're smarter than NHL execs, and NHL owners (who approved the deal).

Durzi and Walker were cleared out for Clarke and or Spence. I know the pick was used but they were getting moved no matter what happened.

I was pissed off but now, I'm over it. Finally realized that it was ALWAYS about Dubois getting the most he can and the Habs talk was just a negotiation ploy.

Another in a long line of me-me-me players who have no problem using any situation to make more money.

For any Hab fans who still believe in fairy tales, if Dubois was UFA next year, he would of taken the highest offer (including Bruins) and I bet it would be closer to 9.5-10 if he had a good year. Which I think is too much for him.

So to LA...good luck. You may or may NOT have your next Kopitar.

To Jets...you got the best out of a bad situation. In hindsight, I think you are better off to build around players who want to be there then straight up money mercenaries.

Correct and if you want to be honestly, most of the Kings players are hard working and that’s unlikely to change…
The depth might have taken a hit but their ability to identify, draft and develop Dmen has been outstanding.. Our next big Dman is in Russia at the moment and has drawn comps to Dmitry Orlov.. Kirill Kirsanov is an outstanding LHD who might replace Gavrikov when his contract is up.. Off topic I know but just wanted to throw that in

Blake has made enough trades by now that fans should know his MO. Other GMs certainly do. He gives fair value for someone he thinks will work out for the Kings. He doesn't try to "win" trades by ripping off other GMs.

He traded a 2nd and a 3rd for an oft-injured and under-performing Arvidsson. Worked out well.

He traded Brock Faber and a 1st for Kevin Fiala, someone who could only put up points under Kaprisov's shadow. Worked out well.

He traded a 1st and a 3rd (and JQ) for Gavrikov and Korpisalo. Egads! Gavrikov will leave in FA, dumb Rob! Wrong--he liked it in LA so much he brought his buddy, Dubois, with him. If Korpisalo re-signs for a reasonable amount, it's another win-win trade.

Yes, he gave up a lot for Dubois. LA fans are obviously emotionally attached to Vilardi. Hard not to be after living with his ups and downs over the years. Tough to give up on Gabe. And Iafallo is a great glue guy, in the locker room and on any line he plays on, but he's a middling player at best. Kupari and the 2nd also hurt, but, again, Rob gives value for value. Dubois, on the other hand, is a young 1a/1b C that can single-handedly take over a game. How many of those become available each year?

Dubois will be a stud in LA. Kopitar, Dubois, and Danault down the middle is pretty damn impressive. Necessary, some would say, if you look at what Vegas and Edmonton roll out on a nightly basis. Will be fun to watch.

Looks like Iafallo and Kopitar played 32 mins together last year…
They barely played together the last 2 years, but Iafallo played with almost no one else for his first 4 years in the league. He owes his career to getting to play with Kopitar and making the most of it.

LA got the best player in the trade but made their team worse with all the depth players they traded to make room for PLD.

I know a few people already replied to you but Kings have a glut of younger players that weren't getting ice time that deserved it. Kaliyev being at the top of that list. He averaged 11:40 TOI/G last year playing on the 4th line and scored 13 goals. He was essentially being wasted. I won't speak for most Kings fans but I know plenty assumed that Iafallo would be traded at some point. He's a decent player but is replaceable. The Kings also needed to cut salary (and still do) and trading players that are being paid a premium for what they produce (Iafaloo) then replacing them with ELC's or cheap RFA's helps resolve that issue. This move in no way made the Kings worse. It was a lateral at worst but even that's hard to argue. The Kings now have excellent center depth and a potential replacement for Kopitar should he retire at the end of his contract.

Laine and his 8.7M for 50 games and 23 goals a year?
