For sure. It was an overreaction to losing to Vegas the year prior. He tried to change the defensive system to one he wasn’t familiar coachingWoodcroft honestly got the short end of the stick, he was not a bad coach
Remember 'Kings Vision'?Wait what?
I'd rather have Bergervin or Emerson.
Johnny's not gonna be happy. Holland is only 5'8. What if he needs to fight someone?
This right here will blow your f**king minds. Here is Detroit’s roster in 2019 after Holland was ‘promoted’ out of the GM spot when his ‘retool on the fly’ was straight up vaporware. Oh yeah, this roster was capped the f**k out and Detroit had no prospect pool whatsoever.Edmonton fan here:
Holland was horrible. He signed Darnell Nurse to a ridiculous, unmovable contract, he took on Duncan Keith Salary dump (and paid to do it), he emptied the prospect cupboards, and didn’t get a starting goalie in his 5 years here. He also did not hire any of the current coaching staff. The one he hired he fired. Woodcroft was a Chiarelli hire that he was willing to let walk.
He was also told by upper executives to re-sign Broberg and Holloway in around December, he failed to do that. He forgot to qualify a prospect who then became a free agent. He also failed to address the team around McDavid and Draisaitl until the last season. Every year prior- the bottom 6 during Chiarelli’s disastrous tenure had a higher GF%. Holland also had the worst team in the league from a GF% when 97/29 were not on the ice for 3/5 years.
The signing of Hyman and the trade for Ekholm were analytics based trades- that his son was the driver behind. Hyman, in particular, was pushed hard by Holland jr. He also signed Jack Campbell for 5 years at 5M/per. Kassian he gave a large contract to (which he had to trade away by adding more draft capital).
The oilers best players were from the drafts under Chiarelli. If he is hired, be prepared for poor drafting (he’ll bring on Tyler Wright), giving away draft capital like candy, over payments on contracts, getting fleeced on trades. There is a reason he was put out to pasture in Detroit and Edmonton had no interest in re-signing him. Oh- you will hear Detroit references in every interview
It is crazy that the Kings and Islanders arent fighting over this guy.Mark Janko would be a great choice from the Stars. From what I understand he is the total package and highly responsible for the talent the Stars brought in.
You want to turn me into Randy Quaid from Major League? Because this is how you turn me into that guy.It so fitting Luc hires Holland - its a foregone conclusion at this point. So lets predict what happens next. Holland keeps Hiller, replaces the only capable guy he's got on hand Yanetti with his guy. Overpays Gavrikov ala Nurse. Extends Kopi. Moves Clarke and Greentree for Dobson or some such.. and runs it back for another 1st round loss.
Hockey buzz: Brendan Shanahan tapped to be Hollands AGM. Steve Duchesne to lead scouting department. Manny Legace to be goaltending coach since Hasek is unavailable. (E4)Jim Hiller and Holland have a history as well. View attachment 1034785
He is one of the main reasons oilers don’t have a cup. He got gifted 22/23 year McDavid and Draisaitl signed to friendly 8.5M and 12.5M dollar deals. He couldn’t build a team around them. This right here will blow your f**king minds. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl ain’t walking through that door.

Also, I don’t hate the Kings. When Gretzky was traded there in 1989 and my hatred for the Oilers owner- Kings were my favourite team- so I will always hold a soft spot for them. Thank you for allowing me into your forum and giving me space to give my thoughts on Holland- from one hockey fan to another.
My pleasure.Thank you for your insights.
With Holland's interactions with the Edmonton media, what was his communicated identity of the team? What types of prospects would you say he showed more favor towards?
