Speculation: LAK GM Search

LOL you can’t make this up.
Not defending Luc at all, but he's going to go with someone he trusts, especially if going outside the organization. I'm just glad it's not Bergevin or Emerson. This is adjacent to what Jesse was saying the other day related to Luc's contacts and why he hasn't been removed yet.

The Kings aren't going to rebuild, even though a lot of us think that should be the next step. They seem to like the general composition of the team. After all, it's looking more and more the reason Blake left is because he wanted to, not because they were dissatisfied with his performance.

So, I'm not saying to be happy. But it's probably time to begrudgingly accept that the best we can hope for is someone from the outside who can help widen the Kings realm of influence and connections, and someone like Holland accomplishes that.

Anybody not an in house promotion.
Ideally, AEG would have cleaned house, but that didnt happen so i continue to hope for the best

Theory on Blake leaving, Rantenenen said he wasn't interested in coming to LA. Blake went full circle from Pacioretty not wanting to be part of the club, to PL being excited then dumped in Washington, to Rantenenen (too many en's? 😂) not wanting to touch LA.

LA should be an easy sell, but Blake has shown the organization to be a joke again & his ability to trade for & sign players that have a choice took a big hit. Just took Blake back to where he tried to trade Kupari for a few years.

Holland signing the Nurse contract is a huge red flag. Think he had a problem with paying over the hill vets too much. It happens with dinosaurs. They don't realize a decade has passed.

Might trade Doughty for Nurse straight up at this point. 😂

Holland? Why?
Holland or Bergevin, just seems like Luc going to talk to candidates and go with somebody he has relationship and trusts as opposed to guys like Darche and Janko. Right or wrong he probably feels like that's his best chance of winning. Myself I'd really try to get Darche or Janko, think they would revitalized franchise as set a course for now and future, plus think either one would be attractive to Free Agents

There MAYYYYYYYYYY have been some extenuating circumstances involved there.
Probably something agent related that got him canned, but Blake was getting back to the don't have assets to make a big splash & can't attract high end players because of shenanigans like the Kovalchuk debacle.

Well nobody knows for sure

BUT

the trade was publicly speculated and expected to happen preceding the 2018 NHL entry draft.

The trade was believed to be contingent on Pacioretty signing a contract extension with the Kings.
The trade never happened.
What did happen was that Pacioretty fired his agent after day one of the draft.

Well now I'm gonna spend the rest of the week trying to figure out how to work "edging" into my hockey metaphor vocabulary in a way that won't get me in trouble
Well, Jim Fox is always talking about a players edge work, so maybe you could work around that.

Edited to say, because of McDavid's edging work, that often makes Draisaitl shoot one off..

it’s never been an easy sell, even under DL.

Under DL the Kings brand was changed league-wide to a winner destination. But clearly its been tarnished back to the original also-ran / come live at the beach status quo. So on top of that, the black hole status and the 14% tax rate - the odds are slim the Kings can fill holes even with overpayment and a ton of cap space.

And where's the winner destination? Anyone take team friendly contracts to come join a winner? Obviously before the Cups, no, you'd be stupid to do that, but after? Gaborik and his 7 years?

Look at the assets the Kings gave up for Penner, Richards, and Carter, before ever winning a 1st rd series. The Kings ultimately won, so nobody cares, but we'd normally kill a GM for doing that. Purcell, and Cloutier, and letting Moulson go on waivers, these were things we cared to talk about around here for years. DL was stupid until he wasn't. Then got really dumb when they started to not win come 2015. Teddy goddamn Purcell was a big talking point for a long time. Brian Boyle too. If you know Terry Murray isn't winning you anything, why would you keep him around while your buddy is up in Canada on his good old Canadian boy ranch? How do you let that first half+ of 11-12 be so medicore if you have an actual plan?
