Speculation: LAK GM Search

..

It's going to be Bergevin or Holland.
Thats a pick your poison.. I think Holland would be less influenced by Luc and co.. but he's a dinosaur - plus he signed Campbell and Nurse to brutal contracts. Maybe past his prime. So thats a toss up between those 2.

Yea and the guy has mde some bizarre contract signings most recently darnell nurse's contract which alot of people say is the worst contract in the nhl

And the last one was almost 18 years ago!

I say the main knock on Holland is the game may have passed him by. He had the best player in the league, in his prime, and did not do much of anything except rely on him to carry the team.
Holland won in the early phases of the cap era when teams were still on old contracts. He just accomplished very little with the Red Wings afterwards.

And the Edmonton Oilers have been buoyed by McDraisaitl. He's handed out some terrible contracts which have handcuffed the team, like Nurse.

He would be far from the worst, and I'd certainly be open to giving him a chance. But I'm not impressed with his cap-era resume.

Not saying that I would want him to be GM, but he did a decent job fixing the mess that Chia left. He joined a team that was coming off back to back 70+ point seasons and since then the Oilers have yet to miss the playoffs, with 6 playoff round wins during his tenure. He had some misses in Campbell and Nurse, but he also had some hits in Ekholm and Hyman. Like I said, I don't think he is amazing, nor am I hoping for him to be the GM, but I don't think his Oilers tenure is really a knock on him.

Red Wings fan here with some takes on Holland.
  1. Proven GM. He knows how to GM. Take that for whatever it's worth.
  2. His drafting and development in Detroit was spectacularly awful. If he brings Tyler Wright with him you are well and truly f**ked.
  3. He signs his guys to awful contracts. Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader in Detroit, Nurse and Campbell in Edmonton. He cannot make hard decisions.
  4. You will likely have to cart him out, as he isn't going to leave on his own. He stayed in Detroit while Jim Nill left for Dallas and Steve Yzerman left for Tampa. He had to be removed beacause the Red Wings were capped out with the worst team in franchise history and had zero prospect pool (see point #2). He then left to run Edmonton. He's a lifer.

If you want to retool on the fly, Kenny is your guy. He isn't going to rebuild.

I would want a guy like Jim Nill - who has built an org that has drafted well and is not afraid to mix youth into the starting lineup. That to me is the big stench within this org. It means the Blake apparatus like Murray and Emerson are gone - also means Hiller and his assistants are gone. To me all those "slow boil" / "zero youth faith" fools are like a cancer that needs to be cut out of the org in total. If any of that remains, I dont expect much to change.

So from what I am reading, we want him in Anaheim or San Jose?

Chiarelli out bid Lombardi on Lucic?

It's not too common a GM and team part ways the summer directly after a Stanley Cup run. But that's what happened with Holland in Edmonton.

Success under a GM doesn't necessarily correlate to a job well done.

I agree with what @Run the Jewels said. If you're bringing in Holland it ain't for a rebuild.
