In this last draft yes, it was allot to give up.

And why is that? Who did they lose out on with that 96th pick? Would you prefer the Kings just sit on their hands and hang onto all of their picks rather than trying to move up and get the player they specifically targeted?

Also, what does Faber being one of the defensemen selected on the US WJC team tell you about the quality of the prospect they moved up to draft? They gave up too much for him?

Sorry, but that's quite the ridiculous statement to make definitively, especially at this point. What's your evidence to support your claim?

Yawn, It all depends doesn't it. Who could we have dealt the pick to get in another deal? I mean if we are going to be purely speculative then there are other options to consider. What if he had been drafted by someone else? Who else could we have drafted? I mean like I said, I like Faber but having seen him play in person before a few times I am not so impressed with him that he was worth our doing anything more than waiting to see if he was available a couple picks later. We didn't and he is ours now at the cost of another pick in a very deep draft. Not the end of the world but worth mentioning imo. Oh and nobody "hates" Faber but there ya go. (not that you said anyone did)

Seriously a 4th round pick? Someone is way overvaluing the 96th pick even in a so-called deep draft. Way over reaching on the complaint here. You can complain about the pick of Farber - but giving up 96 to get to that spot is what it costs (and it’s not much at all).

Nice write up on The Athletic

“Faber’s transition to college hockey has been seamless,” an NHL scout said. “He’s walked right in and been a top-four defenseman. It has helped that he’s paired with Johnson because they complement each other.

“He and Faber, together, their ability to get the puck out of their zone on the breakouts, under pressure and under duress has been a strength of both of them.”

If Sam Stange who Detroit pick with the 4th they traded becomes the next Zetterberg , then we'll talk more about it. You don't know what other teams list are, and who knows, maybe the Hawks or Habs who had picks 46, 47, 48, had hiM there .Teams that sit back and wait tend to lose out on the guy they hope is still there.

Yanneti mentioned he traded up because they had a couple of guys that as long as one of them was still there he would take one of them, klevin went the pick before so he pulled the trigger for someone he wanted, and so far looks genius doing it

Good news I guess for our future D situation since they ranked Grans higher, he was picked high in that 2nd round.

Grans has higher potential and Faber is more a finished product/all around man, grans is still learning the position but if he hits ,like byfield, the sky is the limit. This draft more than any other i remember we could shoot for the moon

Anyone have an update on his play?

Very good freshman season. Would definitely be picked higher if the draft were done today under the old opt-in rules where NCAA players weren't picked until they were 18/19.

The Big Ten tournament starts tomorrow in South Bend and all the games are on Big Ten Network.

Nice! Last year with a draft simulation tool I was always looking to pick Faber in rounds 4 or 5. Was very pleased with the Kings selection. I would of been happy with either Brock or another NCAA physical defenseman Tyler Kleven, who was picked by Ottawa just before Brock. I think it will be great if Brock stays in college next season, and then turns pro.

Agreed. As I think everyone knows by now that is always my view unless a guy is really a star as a freshman. If Faber takes the next step next season he could be ready to start his pro career in the AHL as a 20 year old and then go from there, similar to Mikey Anderson. Even playing 3 years of college wouldn't be bad at all.

I think if he were eligible this year like he would have in the old days (or had he been born a month later) he might have been a late 1st round pick. The Kings got excellent value in the middle of the 2nd.

I nearly forgot about this as well as when and why they changed

Is there a prospect that HASNT been injured this year for us? Crikey man.

Really hope it's just a contusion or something.
