First place team in the conference plays the number 8 team or 2nd wild card. The winner of the other division or by default, second place team in conference, plays the number 7 team or the 1st wild card.
So in the scenario you mention yes that is exactly what would happen. The Kings would get the Hawks.
If Chicago falls to the wildcard the only way to avoid them would be to win the conference or fall to second in the division.
Or the very unlikely thing of Chicago falling all the way to the second wild card spot.

Second game in a row at 23 minutes. Winnipeg game all 6 defensemen played 9-10 shifts and between 6-7 minutes in the 3rd period. Even Kopitar only took one more shift than Andreoff. Two goal game and Sutter really wasn't trying for a win. Quite clear his goal is to rest guys and get into the playoffs as healthy as possible.

Vinny was a game-time decision, right? He had a pretty rough game, and Hockey Night in Canada ran a ~5 minute feature on him in the first intermission. They had interviews with Toffoli, Doughty and Kopitar. I have to wonder if they were on the fence about him and someone from the network mentioned it.
I know Sutter wouldn't care, but maybe Vinny knew and said he was good to go? I don't know. It was possibly his worst game as a King, and he was a last minute decision, WITH the feature. Something something about smoke and fire being in the same place etc.

Not tired bored. Wait for playoffs and he will bring it. One thing you and Ziggy and the rest do not have to worry about is J. Quick's game. The only thing I am a little worried about is the PK and that may be what kills the Kings in the Playoffs.

I think at this point both the Kings and the Hawks are just chillin and not showing off their playbooks.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to face a team that goes hot into the playoffs like Nashville but i'll take that team I saw vs. the central when we clinched into the playoffs anytime.

I think it's obvious that's Sutter's plan. In interviews, he never talks about winning the division. Just getting into the playoffs. He's in tinker mode and seems to be managing minutes interestingly. We've all seen it. It drives us nuts when he throws out the 4th line late in a game holding the lead for a dzone face-off. But there's a method to his madness.
