So, if the Kings have home ice in the first round, these stats would seem to indicate that it might be BETTER to have the crossover come into play, and have the Kings play a Central team in the first round?

Maybe, but not necessarily. I find those records when broken down to be an odd quirk for now. The home record against Central teams also includes multiple 3v3 OT wins, which means little come playoff time.

Whatever happens at home against Pacific teams hasn't hurt the team yet, so I have no reason to think they won't figure that out when push comes to shove. They've been in tougher situations before. The same way a 7-0 road Pacific record doesn't really mean anything yet either. Just a snapshot of the season to date.

You sort of equating Vinny's game as a reason why you are not too worried about Kopitar's contract. Vinny's last 70-point season was in 2009-2010, then he had a dramatic drop off. That was when he was 30 years old. I wouldn't take Vinny still being able to perform at an acceptable level in a 3C role as a reason to not worry about the Kopitar contract.

The Kings cannot afford to have Kopitar's career and production follow the same arc as that of Lecavalier.

The Kings need Kopitar to be a 70-point player for quite some time.

Back to the game, and the immediate future though. It's great to see the Kings firing on almost all cylinders. I still think Carter is a little banged up. It would be nice to pad the lead and see him get some additional time off to heal up. Kopitar, Carter, Lecavalier, Lewis/Shore looks pretty good down the middle heading into the playoffs.

Wait, are you concerned that Kopitar might follow Lecavalier's footsteps in regards to production?

Kopitar came into the league as a very good player on a pretty bad team after playing a year in the SHL, Lecavalier started producing in his 2nd year...but even then he wasn't the player Kopitar was or has ever been. Brad Richards was the better offensive player in Tampa as well.

Why can't we just worry about this season? His contract hasn't kicked in yet and we're already talking about how it's going to be bad 5 or so years from now?

What in the hell.

It wasn't even a full stylistic comparison, it was a reference to some skills that each player has that will likely age better than the running back style board play.

Step away from the Kopitar contract, it's not even relevant here.

The other poster said that Lecavalier's play causes him less concern regarding the Kopitar contract. I don't see that as being true at all, and I commented.

It was very clearly about aging with certain skills, and nothing to do with dollars and cents.

We're not playing this game in this thread.

He talked about the contract that is all about term and cap hit. We are still allowed to respond are we not?

I'm not playing any games, I simply answered the comment that was posted in response to my earlier post.

I agree.
I think Richards and Brown's games rely alot more on physicality. VL has always had good hands and great board play. I think as one ages it obvious which one is more sustainable.
It is why I am not overly concerned by Kopitars deal.

Step away from being overly sensitive about it.

it was more about the style of Brown and Richards vs Kopitar. I just re-read what I wrote and your response was not as much of a jump as I initially responded to

see my post below..was more talking about how Kopitar does not rely on being physical.

Given the title of this thread, I must say the derailment of the contract talks is inconceivable!

No worries. I think Kopitar will be a fine defensive center for a long time. I just worry about him being able to maintain the production of a 1C.
