Still a recent first overall pick. Even if he's struggling it will cost a fortune.

Bump up the price a bit because everyone knows how desperate the Habs are to land french players . . . and yeah.

I would love to see the Habs shoot themselves in the foot to trade for him. Please do it.

Please, don't do this.

I beg of you.

We all already know how this thread will end. We likely already know every talking point.

It depends on how the Rangers view Lafrenière I guess

Like, if they see him as a bust, maybe they want to get some assets while he still has value?

He’s still on ELC so no upside for NYR to sell cheap. His next contract will be interesting and tough call, that would be the time to swoop in with offer sheet or trade offer and hope NYR have given up and not willing to risk a bad bridge (or even worse a long term deal).

The thought of trading him at the moment is too unrealistic and there's no realistic trade either.

Unless you had essentially a clone of Laf but the player was a center, that would be the only realistic deal but that player obviously doesn't exist.

In the end, he either morphs into a superstar for NYR or busts.

The Center clone would be more expensive, no? By virtue of being a center...

I forgot the league changed to only having two teams, the Rangers and Habs. It makes trades really easy as teams can't shop around for a better buyer.

If Habs want him I going to guess it would be something like.

of course some fans on both sides wouldn't like the deal. Ranger fans cause they still believe his greatness has yet to come and he's worth a lot more and Habs fans thinking that the price is too high.

Probably, I was moreso talking from NYR's perspective, but when you have two players/prospects of that caliber, im not sure how much position matters at that point.

Montreal could a have a piece that the Rangers really want, making the need to get value a bit moot.

However, for pieces that the Rangers could specifically want and that are not necessarily available elsewhere at the same conditions, I don't QUITE see it. The Habs player fitting this "possible" bill the best is probably Kaiden Guhle (D+3 D-Men with size on the first year of their ELC playing very tough minutes and being mostly okay doing it are VERY rare), but the it means the Habs have to replace Guhle for their short, middle and long terms plans.

I mean habs obviously do the second trade. I don't think they want to move Beck. The Habs will need a C if Dach remains part of that 1st line. Lafreniere then becomes a luxury with Dach, Slafkovsky and Caufield all on the wing.
