Let's compile some info here on the meetings in La Quinta

#NYR In addition to team's search to fill head coaching vacancy, expect Rangers' brass to also discuss potential of a Brad Richards buyout

#NYR The Rangers also have some top players to lock up this summer, most importantly franchise goaltender Henrik Lundqvist

#NYR Team also has to sign key restricted free agents Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh.

Might as well add RFA MZA to that list.

Only reason he is brought back IMO is if they can't find an upgrade for 2nd line LW. I would love to see him back and think he could fill that spot effectively, his lack of size was evident in the playoffs but he definitely battled. Showed quite a bit of heart. Only reason I don't think he is brought back if they sort out the top six is because he is wasted on the 3rd line, my hope would be another team wants him via trade if we don't plan on keeping him.

Don’t be surprised if Sather, 69, decides to step down from his GM post and places another in charge of running the player personnel decisions. An NHL source as well as a Rangers team source have told MurphysHockeyLaw.com that Sather is considering such a move as he prepares to meet with his hockey operations staff in La Quinta, California this week to discuss the coaching situation, the roster going forward and prepare for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in Newark on June 30.

I'll take Gorton over everybody else and I wish Sather all the best, but it's time. It's been time for a long freaking time.

Messier the coach looks tons better than Messier the GM, and I hate the idea of Messier the coach.

agreed, im all for having mess in the organization and being a "special assistant" or whatever title he has. as long as his hands aren't involved in the day to day operations or coaching of this team im happy.

Exactly. Let him run his leadership camp and whatever other public events he organizes.

Agree.

He's good in some aspects, as you mentioned. But the proposition of him in any position of authority reeks of disaster.

#NYR Can confirm that Rangers sought and have received permission from BUF to speak with Lindy Ruff, as 1st reported by Glenn Healy on HNIC

Lock up Gorton now before other teams get interested.

Agree. And they undoubtedly will start to get interested.

Too much pride and ego at the top of this organization to do things right, unfortunately.

You'd have to think its between Vigneault and Ruff at this point.

Cant see Sather getting creative and going with a wild card candidate. That would actually require legwork and research

Agreed. I think its Ruff's job if he wants it, and I think he 100% wants it. AV would be a good backup option for Sather.

Shame that we were too early on Tippett in 2009, too early on him in 2013.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. I like Ruff in Buffalo when I was going to school there. The people in that city love him and for good reason. He consistently got a ton out of a small market team for many years. Even through all of the constant turnover he did well.

My only issue with him is that he seemed reluctant to want to have the necessary guys in the line-up to play "tough". He required all of his players to play that way, but didn't always have the guns to do it, if that makes sense. I am not sure if that was on Ruff or Regeir.

Yep, it's the most expected and obvious move. Just like 95% of the moves he makes.

I'm hoping that this is more of the Rangers doing their due diligence than anything else...now that DE is off the board, I'm hoping AV gets the job.
