Then and there
Maradona's 86 WC is IMO the best ever. But he sucked in the others. So he's out of this conversation.

Tough to compare because of different times and no footage, but for example Guillermo Stabile scored in each of his matches in the 1930 WC finals, an average of 2 goals per game and finished top scorer with 8 goals.

Maradona in 1986 is in the conversation, but he had average and questionable behaviour in matches in the tournament, too.

He's been like this in Paris too. I don't know what's wrong with him but he needs to come back to the basis with humility.
oh you meant in multiple WCs

Yeah
but for context he was really good in 1982 then he got that stupid red vs Brazil for retaliation

1990 : Goicoichea was fantastic during the knock out stages, and Diego didn’t have his best WC but he had his flashes of genius, especially in the game vs Brazil where with 15 min left, put of nowhere, decided to dribble jalf pf the Brazilian teM to beautifully set up Caniggia. That was amazing tbh

1994 : let’s pretend it never happened lol

Should have been sent off for Hand of God and got a two match suspension. A lot of people care(d) about his behaviour. He was always a cheat, in Napoli too. Talented though, no doubt.

Yeah but he followed it up with the greatest goal ever :) so …

This game was personal for him, because of Farkland, just the way he stared english players down during God Save the Queen, holy shit lol

I’m convinced that he wouldn’t have gone for the hand ball if it was any other team, Diego wanted to beat England at any cost

Imagine thinking a player should be suspended for beating England. They should build a statue for him oh wait

If butcher of Bilbao never happened and had he stayed with Barcelona for his career prime, his life certainly would have been better. Not going into bed with mafia, becoming a drug addict etc.

Maybe his club football career would have been better too, Barca would have been more likely to have won their first European Cup instead of losing to freaking Steaua Bucharest.

not instinctively opposed to Mbappe being top 3, but I would suggest that R9 has two WCs better than Mbappe’s best.
Really?
Which?
94 didn't play
98 where he was dreadful in the final?
02 where he had a super team and while he scored a lot, that team could (should?) have been out in the first knockout game?

I easily take Mbappe's two WC over R9. His volley in the 22 final is one of the most thrilling and iconic WC moments ever on par with Maradona's 86 mad goal.

He looks both cooked and the problem in Madrid, which even fair Real fans would tell you. I've never seen him be this bad in Paris, granted I didn't watch today's match, but it's Getafe
He does not look great, but he is not the problem. Squad construction is a bigger problem.

No depth at CB or FB, lack of creativity in midfield. Arrogance of management is also a huge issue.

Mbappé is a problem, but not THE problem. Today, he got a gazillion chances and his finishing was not there. He needs to time his runs better and not try to do as much by himself. His problems are easily fixable if he is willing to do so.
