They just traded PLD for the decomposing corpse of Darcy Kuemper, a goalie way past his prime. Basically, they gave away PLD for (almost) free as Washington was more than happy to get out of that albatross contract, and this comes after shipping out Vilardi, Iafallo , Kupari and a 2nd for Dubois just a year ago, and then giving him a huge 8-year extension at $8.5M.

The issue here is that almost everyone on these boards could have told you when the trade was done just how much of a collosal disaster giving out a long-term deal to the always malcontent PLD was, but somehow Blake and the rest of the Kings front office didn't see it. Complete disaster.

They also extended Todd McLellan just a few months before finally firing him, another mega-puzzling move. You have to think that there is something seriously wrong behind the scenes for the Kings moves to look this bi-polar. Another disaster, and they should have parted ways with Todd long, long ago.

But worst yet, they just recently extended their management group! So basically Blake and co were allowed to pay a premium to make these disastrous move and then everyone is acting as if nothing happened. It looks like there is absolutely no accountability at the management level whatsoever.

Are the LA Kings the worst run franchise in the league?

They cut their losses. The cap space they freed up is valuable. Maybe it's better to ask, "what they hell are the Caps thinking?"

Kings save 3.25 million dollars and reduce the years from 7 to 3. How is this bad for them?

Dubois wasn't working, and it's like the third team where that's been said, even if Kuemper is a way overpaid backup it's still probably better than the situation they were in with an underperforming much more expensive center for over twice the amount of time.

The Dubois deal was the bad one, this is making the best of a bad situation. Even if Dubois can find his footing again in Washington. Also given his age and looking at some other goalies that age in recent years, there's a chance Kuemper could be on LTIR at some point in the three years.

I remember getting roasted on another site for expressing my displeasure for the PLD trade.

That's the point tho... the bad situation was created by the same person and management who got out of said bad situation, but paid a premium in the process and might have crippled his franchise's chances at being competitive. How are we supposed to give credit for that when like 90% of this board or more could have told you this was a massive disaster when this trade was done last year?

Blake was bullied by the vets still there, mostly doughty, into abandoning the rebuild halfway through.

It wasn't too long ago when they had by most accounts the strongest prospect pool in the league and also good young players on the roster. Now, many of those guys have been squandered away without much to show for it.

I also question how much culpability luc robitaille has in this as well. Feels like an old-boy club there.

Interesting interview on Canuck's Talk on SN650 earlier today with Bukala. He speculates that the Caps might buy-out PLD and it will cost them under 2 mil a year. (for practically forever so there is that...) They get out of the Kemper contract and ditch PLD...kind of a good idea tbh.
