$8.5M is higher than you would want, but it's not soooo bad. Certaintly not the $11M that the kook Hab fans said we'd have to overpay in order to get PLD to come to La away from his beloved Mtl.

But what does the rest of the deal look like. dumping AI, even though he was valuable, is a good offset cap wise.

Well, if true, Blake has pushed his chips into the middle this offseason. He might as well trade away next two firsts and go get a goalie at this point. I honest to God am not sure what the game plan is anymore.

I got banned from the Trade board for trolling a guy about the Kings having plenty of cap space to fill out the roster because Dubois for Vilardi/Iafallo/Kupari was a wash cap wise.

Are you telling me I just trolled myself?

I have a feeling he's rolling with Copley and will just get a cheap veteran backup.

So because they want to compete for the cup right now, they're moving out Vilardi, a drafted center who was moved to wing and then proved himself, one of our best players all year and who contributes a lot to the team right now, but keeping Byfield, another drafted center moved to wing who has yet to prove himself and doesn't contribute as much to the team and thus is not helping the win the cup now idea. Can anyone explain this?

2 is a higher pick then 11 and looks worse

AI makes 4 million, Vilardi was going to command anywhere from 3.5-5 million, and Kupari just over a million. So that's a wash...

Problem is we’ve turned three NHL roster players into one with no cap relief.

Still, though, it looks like we can fill out the remaining roster spots with ELCs/veteran minimums.

Well if this is all true, it's a bummer to see Vilardi go. I was really hoping to see him flourish here. I'm going to be a little optimistic here, and hope that PLD benefits from playing with Kopitar and gets to improve his 2-way game. If we get that and plays with some discipline, we'll have a great player in our hands.

Somewhere during the last 2 years, it went from rebuilding and prospect development, to win now mode, because their top draft picks haven't developed quickly enough and Kopitar is still really good.

Given that they've put themselves in this position to win now, moves to get established players make sense. Filling a big hole at center because none of the prospects have stepped in, makes sense.
I'm not happy about trading Vilardi who's become my favorite King, but #2 C is more important than top6 winger.

Definitely a do or die type trade by Blake. Either this works and Kings win in the next 1-2 years or Blake is gone.

Very sad indeed, stepped up in spite of mclelllan trying to ruin his career

I'm starting to warm up to this trade. I love Vilardi he's without a doubt my favorite player from the "rebuild" but he's a winger with very legitimate long term health concerns who had 1 successful season as a pro and even then he missed 20 games while posting an unsustainable 19% shooting percentage, Iafallo was essentially a cap dump. We clearly needed a center as well as a top 6 forward that played a power game with a bit of jam, PLD covers both of those.

Hello folks, you're getting one hell of a player when he's on...a giant pain in the ass to play against...I hope he consistently plays like that for you, you'll like pld...plus Kopitar can mentor him to be his replacement. If this deal is as reported.
To add to this...I think he fits your system to a T...hits, agitates, and can score..not afraid to go the net..etc

Hope it works out for both our teams

Because offense is just what the team needed vs the Oilers.
I mean..... It kind of is????

The Kings couldn't generate much against the Oil, especially 5 on 5.

The two games we won were on powerplays in OT. Other than that there was VERY few times when we were controlling the game offensively.

But ultimately I agree, PK and goaltending were more of the main issues.

Is it the players or the system though?
