How funny would it be if we brought back Kubalik? Hagel is an interesting player as well, but I think he'll be snatched up by a legitimate Cup contender as he reminds me of the Goodrow/Coleman acquisitions.

Interesting is right and the Goodrow comparison makes it apt value but a 1st + good prospect for all these acquisitions is grosssssss and really only the true contenders should be paying those prices.

Everyone seems to expect a 1st and an A prospect in every move and it's hilarious given most of them will be given ONLY a late first and B/C prospect or the equivalent of 2 2nds or 2/3.

The thing is, JAD and Vilardi have to be in the NHL next year because they're not waiver exempt. So there's essentially no forward spots open to add a scoring forward. (Assuming Lizotte, Kempe, Lemieux & Grundstrom are re-signed)

Kings need to bring up JAD and Gabe right now and see what they got. If they don't, the kings go into this off season not knowing if they really need to look for outside forward help or not.

And it's not like bringing them up would hurt the current team. The 3rd line is already bad. Can't be any worse.

If the Kings are going to pursue a trade that costs less than the Arvidsson deal, then I'm thinking they're looking at low risk, high reward type moves like getting a Phil Kessel or James van Riemsdyk at a bargain bin price.

But Blake also mentioned to LeBrun that they want to make a deal for a player who can help now and down the road, and a player with term who can score is going to cost more than just 2nd and 3rd round picks.

What kind of player is available for less than RV who is better than JAD or Vilardi?

Well we don't really know what we have with JAD/GV do we?

That said, sometimes you can get a cheap player who just needs a change of scenery. Gaborik was had for what turned out to be a 2nd, 3rd and Frattin.

The Penguins got Carter last year for a 3rd and 4th.

Guess we never will since they never are inserted into the lineup.

Maybe we can trade to get Carter back.

I think Blake is saying he prefers something that’ll cost like Arvidsson a 2nd & 3rd. But if the player will help now and down the road he’ll likely be willing to pay for more. Especially a dynamic player age 23-26.

This whole 'cost' thing was last Summer and does not pertain to now.

He said he wants to continue to improve the team. 'cheap' in terms of assets given up - zero - for Danault and Edler, are obviously
free agent ones that are only off season deals and the cost for Arvidsson - a 2nd and a 3rd - was reasonably cheap...for a 28 yr old and if you believed he could be a 20+ goal scorer again.

There are NO cheap upgrades at the deadline. That could only be a cap dump deal and do not see that. Don't have the cap space.
Anything cheap now, could not possibly be a better player to make a difference now.

Can see Olofsson being a good target out of Buffalo. Probably cost a little less than Arvidsson and has goal scoring ability. They may even want contracts back like Andersson, Wagner, Walker….

Anyone holding onto the pipe dream Brown would be dealt before the deadline, you can let go of it now it would seem:

Countdown to TradeCentre: Kraken explore deal for Giordano - TSN.ca

"Blake told LeBrun in The Athletic that he has no intention of moving the team's pending unrestricted free agents ahead of the March 21 deadline. That list is headlined by former team captain Dustin Brown, who carries a $5.875 million in the final season of a eight-year contract.
“He’s been so important to this organization,” Blake said of Brown. “I’d love to see him take this team back to the playoffs. That’s important. Whatever happens after in the summer, we’ll address our UFAs then.
“Right now, I feel we need these players.”
Forward Andreas Athanasiou and defenceman Olli Maatta are also playing on expiring deals, but LeBrun doesn't expect Blake to move those players either."

Blake also doesn't appear to be interested in adding pure rentals at the deadline"

“Anything we look at has to have both parts: has to improve the team now and later,” Blake said.
What a dumb thing to say. Threaten to trade him and he’ll magically start scoring hatties.

Check this out on Chychrun (below). Is Chabot off limits in a trade with Ottawa?

I like what one scout said about Chychrun, "He's not as good as last year, and he's not as bad as this year." I think AZ's asking price is way out of line. That said, in no way does he represent an organizational need for us. Our D right now is reasonably solid. With Clarke, Faber, Grans, and Spence clearly waiting for their chance, we don't need him and we shouldn't be thinking of overpaying to get him.

JVR has one more year at a cap hit of $7 mill. If we're looking at that route he better be 50% retained.

Blake is also telling the vets not to expect help, that if they want to play meaningful games in April, they are going to have to step up. I like this approach, why trade premier prospects in a year where we have no chance at the Cup.

never thought of it in that context. Like the interpretation and think you may be onto something.

Saw a bunch of speculation about Travis Konecny to the Kings over the last 48 hours. I'm not sure how I feel about that. He'd essentially bump one of Iafallo or Moore. This season, they both have more goals than him (wait, so does Kaliyev). And he'd block a move up for Kaliyev and/or Vilardi next season.

But he's a pretty fierce forecheck/cycle/pursuit/possession guy with an amazing shot on top of that.

He wouldn't be cheap to acquire.

Philly drafting a guy in the first round and spending years developing him, only to trade him away?

If he's not cheap to acquire, then you're probably looking at a Kaliyev/Vilardi type going back the other way.

I think these 3 are untouchable, period: Byfield, Clarke, Kaliyev. Kaliyev gets better week to week and will be top 3 in points on the Kings for years...by 24-25. I think they know this
and will not part with him.
